AIBU to travel abroad to pursue child maintenance from my ex?

Looking for some advice. My ex-husband moved abroad, and I'm trying to pursue child maintenance. I spoke to the court in his country, and they said I need to travel there to lodge the application and then the process can be monitored online afterwards. It's a non-REMO country, so the UK authorities can't help.
My ex is refusing to pay child maintenance and doesn't want to come to any agreement regarding maintenance, contact, visitation, or even a regular phone/video call schedule with, despite earning a substantial salary. He is currently hiding his employment.
Would it be considered reasonable for me to travel there to start the legal process, or should I keep trying to reach an agreement with him? Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?

What country is it?
If safe to do so, yes it seems like a good plan.

Do you think that even if you can get a decision on child support that it would realistically be enforced by the other country? As for contact like visits and phone and video calls, it's unreasonable to think that would be enforced.
