It's 31 degrees in my bedroom and I'm melting!
I've had a cool shower, the fan is on .....but I'm too hot!
How is everyone else coping?

Badly. DS(10) has finally fallen asleep with a fan about 3cm from his face. DD(8) is still wide awake and lying next to me on my bed. DH is out and will have to move her when she's asleep and he gets back.

It's 29 in here. Awful.

Last night's storm gave me hope it was going to all break before today's expected temps but that was obviously not what happened

Minimal clothing, fan, starfish position. Maybe a glass of wine before bed.

I woke every hour. It’s unbearable.

Air con units are a god send. Keeps the bedrooms very cold

N4meChng · 24/06/2026 08:49

I put iced water into a hot water bottle, which goes in my bed while I’m getting ready for bed then on me once I’m in it. There’s a risk the cold could damage the bottle though, so I’d recommend not using it as a hot water bottle later

Wet hair. I go to bed with wet hair every night and a fan blowing and it seems to do the trick. As long as my head and feet are cool I can sleep.

DH slept badly but DC and I were fine, 33 degrees but no duvets, two fans in each room. The fans were rotating so there was an air current which is meant to help? We also use a dog cooling mat in DC1's bed as he is sensitive to heat.

I've slept on 'mahjong bed mats' abroad and they were very cool in the heat, seem to be on Amazon with a Google.

Feel for fellow MNetters in England/Wales.

I didn’t struggle at all, DH looked at me like I had two heads when I said that. Just slept blissfully as usual.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 24/06/2026 09:01

I was ok, only woke once to close the curtains at 4am (had left them open with windows open) gave my daughter the only fan as was more important to keep her cooler.
i really must buy another fan!!

hugasaurus · 24/06/2026 09:04

It was 28 degrees in DD1’s room last night and we are in n-east Scotland so it must have been awful down south. We have a portable air con in our room so she came through for a bit but then wanted to go back to her own bed. It was ‘only’ 25 in DD2’s room and she seemed to manage okay. Ours was 19 thanks to the air con. Really contemplating whether we should get it properly installed in all the bedrooms.

I’m not coping. No sleep and my summer depression is at its worst. Crying a lot with the physical pain it creates in the heat and still having to do a highly physical job. Genuinely worried now I’m going to have a collapse warranting medical assistance as I’m starting to feel spaced out.

Fans, lots of fans, proper big old school metal gym floor fans, and same for desks. I don't bother with the fancy ones, I just want something to move a lot of air fast in every room. Stay up late, or get someone else to, so you can keep the downstairs windows and doors open to get that cooler air in. If there is any tonight it will be a miracle.

I had four cold showers yesterday, clap cold, stand under there for a good while until you feel your core temperature start to drop. Do this before bed, fan on high whack, eye mask, windows wide open, duvet cover without a duvet in it, magnesium and a glass of water and I slept like baby. Chef's kiss. And I'm in the high alert area, bang in the middle.

Theraininspainishere · 24/06/2026 10:43

I felt hot when I got into bed. It was very warm in the room! Opened curtains and windows to get it as cool as possible.

After turning a few times and saying ‘it’s hot!!’ I don’t remember anything until morning!

Allswellthatendswelll · 24/06/2026 11:20

Both kids (1 and 4) in bed with me as aircon. Cool but a squeeze! DH was ok on his own with a fan but might go downstairs tonight.
