Cancelling plans with friends

I’m supposed to be meeting up with some friends at a small cafe on Thu pm for a coffee. Not a special event just a social gathering. AIBU to cancel as it’s so hot? There’s no air con in the place and it’s very small and there’s no outside seating. I’m being told I’m a wimp.

If you want to see them suggest a different venue with air con

Go somewhere with a shady outside terrace that you can sit on, or even better, by the water, which always seems cooler.

Agree with pp. This is cider in a waterside pub weather.

Chritrup · 23/06/2026 16:42

I’d explain your concerns and suggest and alternative venue. If they insist (which I doubt) I’d just go anyway and make the best of it.

WhatNoRaisins · 23/06/2026 16:48

I wouldn't blame you. This sort of thing is supposed to be for fun and I wouldn't find sitting somewhere public drenched in sweat fun. Could this be postponed until it's cooler?

Arlanymor · 23/06/2026 16:49

Sounds like a change of venue is needed.

Yes, cider over a glass of ice. Not coffee.

“Hi friends, since this heat is predicted to continue, could we move our meet to somewhere with a nice outdoor area or air con?”. Problem solved.

I'm currently hiding in my air-conditioned bunker (formerly know as the home office), and don't plan to emerge until the temperature drops back into the 20s. So on that basis YANBU.
