You won a decent chunk of money? Not never work again millions like the lottery, but 1 million and under like the radio competitions/house draws, and amount you'd need to allocate rather than just going mental

Do you have a rough plan or would you need to think about it? Would you quit work/retire early/go part time? What would be your life changing amount?

I've not won (i wish!) But whenever I enter these I end up with a detailed idea of how I'd spend the money 🤣 I'd need £650k to do everything I'd like to do:

  • Clear off debt (around 5k)
  • Nice house thats more than big enough, not massive
  • Couple of nice but not naice AI holidays (we've not left the UK before)
  • stick some in pensions for us both
  • Invest a bit in our business
  • Kids savings
  • household savings
  • gift money to my siblings/our parents
  • gift money to our landlords for being awesome (long term rental)
  • gold merlin passes x 4
  • good mountain bikes and paddleboards for our new van life weekends 🤣

I wouldn't quit work but I'd set aside 3-6 months of living expenses and shut down sales for a few months while we moved, holidayed and enjoyed the money, and I'd work behind the scenes to improve it during that time too. Then reopen and enjoy the work without worrying about needing to pay rent!

So, what would you do?

Buy houses for my children… they’d be quite modest though, as I have 5!

AI holidays? I am assuming that you don't mean "Artificial Intelligence"?

I'd pay off the mortgage and retire earlier.

😂

Presume AI means ‘all inclusive’ in this instance!

Easy. Buy a nice house (not enormous, but well located and in excellent condition), give some to family to help them onto the housing ladder, and invest the rest to live off. I would immediately drop to 3 days a week at work (my dream!) and spend the rest of my week volunteering and doing stuff I truly believe in.

ETA: £100,000 would be life-changing as it would go a long way towards buying the house outright, but to accomplish all of the above I would need close to a million I reckon.

Haha yep!

We've only ever done self catering lodge holidays so all inclusive in somewhere they would love would be amazing, there's one in Spain (I think) that has a theme park and water park basically on site which we would all love 🤣

And maybe a nice grown up one for just the 2 of us

I have thought about this a lot 😂 I won't say how much but I know down to the last pound exactly how much I would need to quit work but live my exact same lifestyle as long as I live, so I'd do that, then anything on top would be a bonus. I don't want to not do any work at all, but I would 100% relish the fact that it would become optional.

Portaventura, we went last year and are actually going again this summer, the flights are really reasonable (cheapest I found in Spain out of the holiday destinations in Europe that I’ve checked) and also there are plenty of cheap hotels in Salou. You don’t need to stay on site to have an amazing time there honestly you should just do it! Feel free to message me if you want to ask anything about it.

I may have a few notes of plans for varying amounts, and a bunch of houses saved on rightmove

There's one I've fallen in love with, ideal location for us, amazing price just needs a little work that I may or may not have planned in full with approximate costs... 🙈🤣

If I ever win I'll give you a shout! 😁🤣

It looks amazing, good to know it's not necessarily unachievable (just not right now sadly)

I’d buy a place in London and put the rest into a pension, then finally use my art history degree to get the sort of part time art gallery job that are common in London, and with no mortgage it wouldn’t matter that it was underpaid.

Had to say this, Portaventura is terrible the few rides they have are so rough as to be unpleasant. I would use your winnings for Gardaland in Italy it's awesome and there's a hotel and waterpark on site, great buffet breakfasts also.
