I really don’t want to put the range cooker on during a heatwave, the thought of it fills me with dread ! Got me thinking, what dinners do you do when it’s so hot? I need ideas other than just salad.

Pizza oven pizzas
Lots of chicken wraps, lamb pittas, fajitas with the meat cooked in the air fryer.
Burritos, tacos with the mix made on the hob.

Sushi

LuckyHazelFox · 21/06/2026 06:53

Tuna pasta bake
Fish and chips
Steak salad with cashew nuts
Bread sticks and a variety of fruit and cheese platters

All nice tv dinners for the world cup games

MagnesiumBathSalts · 21/06/2026 06:53

We do “picnic” dinners for the kids. Sandwiches, fruit platters, wraps, cold pasta salad, things like fattoush and tabbouleh are really quick and easy to make

AngelicInnocent · 21/06/2026 06:55

Various pasta dishes or anything I can pop in airfryer.

rivalsbinge · 21/06/2026 06:58

BBQ food, salmon, chicken, etc with cous cous etc and like another poster pizza over pizzas

FridayNighFeeling · 21/06/2026 07:00

Normal meals! Friday we had roast chicken with bread and salads, yesterday we had a BBQ, today we're having Thai curry with the left over chicken, tomorrow is gammon joint with bread and salad, Tuesday macaroni cheese with the left over ham from the joint

mrspk · 21/06/2026 07:02

Chicken, pork, salmon cooked in the air fryer, lots of salad with new potatoes or couscous.

Honeyhonay · 21/06/2026 07:06

Whatever I feel like on the day, I don’t really change how I cook or eat during warmer weather.
I’ve never really felt like I couldn’t put the oven on due to the weather.

Bjorkdidit · 21/06/2026 07:10

Your oven must be really badly insulated and your kitchen really poorly ventilated if turning on an oven changes the temperature?

We tend to BBQ quite a lot so we can just sit in the garden and chat while foods cooking. Usually marinaded meat with salad. Otherwise normal food, stuff from the freezer. Or perhaps paella, calamari (frozen and reheated in air fryer) and garlic prawns and we can pretend we're in Spain on holiday.

Ophy83 · 21/06/2026 07:17

Bbq meat - make extra then you have cold meat you can use in wraps/sandwiches etc.

Various slaws - could do a classic or an Asian satay slaw for a twist

Mary Berry's red rice salad is good: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/fiery_red_rice_salad_91889

Or a Vietnamese rice noodle salad. The noodles cook in boiled water from the kettle, so this could be entirely cold depending on what you top it with, though I would tend to cook meat - steak or chicken or prawns or mince pork or chicken or turkey cooked with lemongrass/chilli/ginger/fish sauce

Fiery red rice salad recipe

This is a hot salad that would be fabulous to serve on a buffet table for a summer supper or barbecue. It is delicious served with chargrilled meats, chicken or fish. Each serving provides 236kcal, 4g protein, 42g carbohydrate (of which 6g sugars), 5...

our dinner plan for this week:

  • Greek marinated chicken and greek salad with bread
  • Sausage and burgers with potato salad
  • Pork chops with salad
  • Salmon, rice, cucumber and edamame
Gettingaggy · 21/06/2026 07:19

Well we don’t have a range cooker, and our oven doesn’t really leak heat so that isn’t an issue for us, so we just cook as usual.

Iocanepowder · 21/06/2026 07:20

We have bought ready meals.

Also anything we can put in the airfryer.

Sandwiches

I refuse to boil or fry or use the oven in my kitchen when it is already like a sauna.

AbsoluteHoot · 21/06/2026 07:22

We have a rangemaster, but it doesn’t make the kitchen hot if it’s on. Yours might need a service.

We just crack on as normal.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 21/06/2026 07:26

Fishcakes with salad is a fave here … bung them in the air fryer …

bellastricken · 21/06/2026 07:27

Also have a rangemaster and it doesn't make the kitchen hot! It definitely shouldn't. Check your door alignment/hinges and that the vents aren't blocked.

Our house is over 100 years old. The oven is brand new induction so I’m confident it isn’t that. It’s the tiny kitchen that needs some serious upgrading

new potatoes, coleslaw, salad and pre cooked chicken breasts
chicken fajitas done in the air fryer

Our house is over 100 years old.

Aren’t most?

TheChosenTwo · 21/06/2026 07:47

We eat what we’d normally eat but just later in the evening. Last night it was prawn curry, aloo gobi, chapati and rice but at 10pm.
Tonight we’re having Korean style chicken and pork, kimchi rice, smashed cucumber salad and stuff, the meat will be cooked on the bbq and we’ll aim to sit down and eat at 9pm.

My kitchen gets so much sun and absolutely gets boiling hot in a heat wave. I certainly wouldn't do any oven dishes. We have an air frier or just cook easy things, Gazpacho, range of salads, wraps.

countrygirl99 · 21/06/2026 07:58

Spaghetti vongole and ceviche are our go tos when it's boiling or cold meats and salad.

Cel77 · 21/06/2026 08:04

Tacos, wraps, greek salad, pasta salad, chicken skewers, quiche and salad...
It's really hard to think about stuff to eat in that heat! For us, it's salad every time(whoch we all love, so it's fine) with some quick to cook meat (mince beef, chicken). Add some greek bread, or baguette and that's a meal.
Saying that, I've no idea what we're going to eat this week as I've already made all of the above last week!
Good luck!

I do normal meals too.
We were away yesterday so no cooking, but today will be normal dinner, a turkey and potato thing with cauliflower and broccoli and a peach cobbler.
It helps than my vent over the cooker pulls air to the outside of the house, not just circulate it in the kitchen.
Later this week will be leftovers, pasta dinners, and maybe a Chicken or tuna salad.
