AIBU to expect my partner to flush after a wee?

Just want to rant really 😂
My partner has a really annoying habit of not flushing after a wee.
Our flat is old so the shower temperature if affected by taps or the toilet flush.
He likes to turn the shower on to allow it to warm up and then have a wee in the mornings. Because the shower is running he doesn’t flush the toilet and just puts the lid down.

today I came home and opened the lid to use the toilet and the stench was unbearable. The wee had been in there since 10am when he left for work and the flat is 30 degrees today so you can imagine 🤢

AIBU that he should flush the bloody toilet!

YABU. It's a waste of water. You can have 2 or 3 wees or more without flushing. Natch in the hot weather it might smell but otherwise let it sit

BeSharpHelper · 19/06/2026 18:02

better for the environment innit and your water meter , if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down . Did it smell that much really? Tell him to piss in the shower like everyone else . Or ask him to out a post it note on the back of the bathroom door to remind himself as he’s leaving the bathroom .

Sunandsunshine · 19/06/2026 18:02

A few years ago I heard an item about the cost of purififying the water after you have flushed the toilet so that it can go back into the water supply. The advice was not to flush the toilet after you have done a wee as it was more environmentally friendly and cut costs.

After I heard about this I tried not flushing the toilet after every wee. But I'm afraid it just didn't seem right to me and I went back to flushing every time.

So yes I agree with you OP that your partner is being anti social by not flushing .

NegativeSpace · 19/06/2026 18:04

If it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down.

A couple of wees left overnight don’t smell in our bathroom so I’m surprised one wee stinks so much. At least he’s toilet trained and not pissing in the shower I suppose but, if it bothers you and you’ve spoken to him, then yes, he should be flushing.

GordanoServices · 19/06/2026 18:05

One wee should not smell that bad. Is he incredibly dehydrated or with health issues?

Whaleandsnail6 · 19/06/2026 18:06

Yabu. I only flush a wee if expecting visitors or in a public toilet.

Its a waste of water to flush after every wee.

Other than that "if it's yellow, let it mellow...."

saveforthat · 19/06/2026 18:07

If you keep the lid closed it shouldn't smell. We don't flush after every wee but if you use paper you have to flush eventually or block the bog.

AnonKat · 19/06/2026 18:07

We dont flush for wees. Such a waste of water.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/06/2026 18:09

If we're running the shower to get the water warm, we collect the run off in a bucket and use that to flush the loo.

NarnianQueen · 19/06/2026 18:13

How on earth could wee diluted by water in the toilet create a “stench”?

aliceyyyy2654 · 19/06/2026 18:13

Okay maybe I am being unreasonable here. I was brought up to flush after every use so i do, I suppose others have been taught otherwise.
it’s his first wee of the day that smells so I don’t think any health issues

I don’t know but it does 😂 I think the room being 30 degrees doesn’t help

I’ve heard peeing in the shower is recommended actually. It saves on water and toilet roll and is more hygienic because you’re washing after instead of using paper.
I personally don’t, it’s just what I heard.

MoaningLeeeeesa · 19/06/2026 18:21

Nah. I never flush after a wee. I’ll do at least three before I flush. Waste of water.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 19/06/2026 18:32

He should just wait and pee in the shower.

igelkott2026 · 19/06/2026 18:34

If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down.

I see other posters already said that ;)

I think peeing in the shower is fine too - it gets flushed straight down and I can't see why it's any worse than period blood which must end up getting washed down the plughole for a lot of women too. Or even normal blood if you nick yourself shaving!

This. It all goes down to the same sewage system.

TheChosenTwo · 19/06/2026 18:36

Urgh I’m with you op and would find this absolutely grim!
I’m so glad I don’t go to other peoples houses and use their loos to discover that they’re “if it’s yellow” people 😂 at least if they are they make an effort to freshen up before guests go round…
yuck.

It can stink if the person is very dehydrated. Does your partner need to drink more water?

Typical bloke response. The smell of stale piss disgusting, what do you think the flush is for 🙄

MasterBeth · 19/06/2026 18:46

Rank.

Fuckssake! Flush your bodily wastes.

Sharptonguedwoman · 19/06/2026 19:09

You are not alone OP. That's revolting.

G5000 · 19/06/2026 19:32

Ew. Of course you flush after you use the toilet, who wants to find someone else's piss there? And yes it stinks, 'mellow' people have just gone noseblind.
