To let a road put me off buying perfect house?

In Ireland. I would be commuting daily from Blessington, Wicklow to Dublin . It’s not length of commuting giving me second thoughts it’s that I hate that n81 blessington route. It feels so dangerous and I don’t like the thought of doing it every day even on icy dark mornings. I’ve also read that deer are frequently on that stretch of road. Help- am I being ridiculous? I don’t want to let the house go over this but I’m worrying. The house is otherwise perfect; it is just how driving this road makes me feel. Any advice is so welcomed.

I worked with someone who commuted from Wicklow to Dublin by bus. Could you do that instead?

It’s an option but it would be very, very long!

Yes I think it was. I think she had quite an early start on the coach…

This is brilliant. I seriously just joined (5 mins ago) and you're the 2nd post I read. Well, I live in Saggart 😆 My opinion is that road is dodgy "BUT" If it's a dream home, grab it!! You'll get used to the roads and I reckon they'll be doing work on it soon for everyone commuting. DO IT 😘

Sensiblesal · 18/06/2026 01:23

Sounds like dream home wrong location. It won’t remain a dream home if you have concerns over the road then have to drive on it at least twice a day.

I have 3 friends living there and it's stunning. When you know, you know. I would check about the road upgrades aswell, you do need to feel comfortable driving though. I think you'll be grand!! Confidence!!

Tooobvious · 18/06/2026 09:28

How long would you be each day on the horrible road? (Might there be anyone you could share lifts with?)

Your confidence would probably improve but it’s not going to be worth it if you have to dread your commute time every day.

CandiedPrincess · 18/06/2026 09:31

I think after you've done it for a period of time, you'll not give it a second thought.

Could you maybe do a test run before you commit? Perhaps go and do a few mornings and evenings going to work to and from the house ? See how you actually find it.
