Octopus energy- can anyone help me to understand… I entered up to date meter readings two days ago and my balance went up to +£400. Today, two days later, my balance is 25p. HOW???? WHY????

I don't think anyone could answer this without seeing the account meter readings, etc. Obviously not asking you to share personal data though.

Was it your electricity reading that went up significantly? Not that I have an explanation for it, but just I have heard of electricity bills increasingly massively for people recently.

What date do you pay?
Mine usually rakes a few days to clear, so say you made a payment around the 10th, thst could have cleared, resulting in the uplift. Then the readings got calculated, and the balance reduced.

You need to look at the billings tab, and see what they've done.

My real meter readings caused the balance to jump up into credit because they are so much lower than the estimated ones that the balance was based on. This was only this week so I can’t see how I can suddenly have used £400 worth of gas and electricity!

Octopus bills can be strange at times, but customer services are good at sorting them out if you phone or email. There will be some explanation.

Same happened to us. I still haven't got to the bottom of it... mine jumped up by £800

I left octopus after similar happened to me.
they refused to reduce my direct debits when I moved into the property, the old occupier worked from home, was a family of 4 and ran a hot tub. I work out the house and stay myself with no hot tub.
i was made to pay £250 despite meter readings showing I was using £60 so my account ended up massively in credit. Then one day I logged in and it was -£48. They’d just removed the credit and couldn’t explain why.
i ended up having to go to the ombudsman to eventually get it sorted. I closed the account and paid the final bill sent through. 6 months later they wrote saying they’d miscalculated the final bill and I was still due them £35. After a lot of back and forth emails they eventually wrote it off. I would never go back to octopus , shocking customer service and m I never did get an explanation why the credit was just wiped.
