AIBU to expect people to put parasols away in windy weather

I don’t understand why people don’t put their parasols down and away when not in use.

I can see 8 parasols up in the gardens that back onto the parking area of the flats I live at. These houses are in the next street.

It has been very gusty and two of the parasols have blown over from the gardens to the parking area. I can’t remember which houses had which parasols for me put over their fences. Plus unsure if anything breakable is by the fence.

It takes seconds to fold your parasol and a couple of minutes to put it away.

Posted on FB re parasols. Worried that the gusts may damage cars.
Also how long is reasonable for the owners to collect the parasols.

Then soon trampolines will be blowing about

Perhaps they are at work or at the garden centre and not staring out of their window watching their parasol, and have no idea that there’s a problem? It seems like you think there’s some awareness or intent here.

Lots of potential reasons. It’s easy to go out for the day or go to work and not realise it’s going to turn windy. Or for it to happen at night when it’s windy and not want to or feel able to get up at 1am in the dark and windy to fold it up and put it away. They might be on holiday. It might a two person job if it’s a big parasol, or at least a second person might be needed to watch small children while you do it. It’s not necessarily people being deliberately negligent or careless.

Do you not get out much, OP?

tiramisugelato · 14/06/2026 12:33

Do you never forget anything?

angelikacpickles · 14/06/2026 12:34

Is it really that big a deal?

cottagecheese1 · 14/06/2026 13:01

I would log it with 101

You posted on mumsnet and Facebook about other people’s parasol set up?
Was there nothing better you could have been doing than counting parasols and getting irate?
