AIBU to ask why so many clothes are sized for taller women?

Genuinely question - why do clothing companies design clothes for women who are much taller than average height? Why not make the 'standard' size fit 5'5ish women, then offer petite and tall sizing if there's demand for it? The vast majority of women are somewhere within a few inches of 5'5 and very few are 5'10!

I've been looking for a jumpsuit. They all look lovely on the model, then you look at the model's height and she's 5'10. Surely a very small percent of women are this tall? Some companies make petite sizes (great!) but most don't.

I love the look of these for example, but the model is 5'10! They'd look ridiculous on me and I'm average height.

I'm a shoe size 8 (was a 9 before I lost weight). The sizing thing does my head in, I always look for a 42 as you can't rely on UK 7/8 sizing being right.

This drives me mad. I am 41 which is a 7 7.5 or an 8 depending on which shop. For example Next 41 is 7, M&S is 7.5 and New Look is 8
Although sometimes I fit into size 7 eu 40 like in primark
UK sizing doesn’t mean anything to me

I am 5'10, I can assure you most clothes are not made for women my height!

Same. I love nothing more than tops that gape if you move your arms - and weird trouser gaps…

Oh !! I have been saying this for years. I hate that petite is a thing. I'm not fucking petite , I'm short.

I'm 4ft 8. I'm also 54, have had 3 children, went through puberty., have size 34f boobs and in no way look prepubescent.

It is not a failing, on my part that I can't buy clothes from the childen's department. Because I am not a child.

I am just short- with the body of an actual adult.

All the women in my family were under 5ft (before me and my sister had children)- don't get us started on shoes. Even 40 years ago my mother was getting frustrated in shops because nowhere sold 3s. And I'm only a 2!

I feel for you. It's bad enough being 5 foot two on that score. I've got hips, I've got boobs. And now I have got a post-menopause belly. Surprisingly enough, clothes made for children, even teens, don't fit me. Because they are made to fit children's bodies.

I have been this height since I was 14, but I am not the same shape.. Because I am a 52 year old woman.

Yeah I’m 5ft 1 and always struggle with trousers. For work I usually either have to accept wet trousers on the bottom during rainy days or roll over the waist band so they don’t drag ( never get around to altering them 🤣) jump suits have never fit and I find a line skirts or maxi ones are never the right size, especially in supermarkets.Petite versions from vinted seem to have some good options. I don’t get too frustrated though cause I imagine everyone has an issue with something around clothing not being a good fit for them, just have to find some places that do your size well.

Looking at the comments from women of different heights on this thread, it seems that women’s clothes only come in one size - the wrong one!

God no, as i’m only 5ft 1 and find most too big.
