DS on and off stomach pain, could it be appendix?

Not looking for a diagnosis just wondered if anyone had experienced similar with their DC. DS was up all night Tuesday with bad stomach pain, woke up Wednesday morning with a fever and was crying that the pain in his stomach was really bad (said it was everywhere but was holding near his belly button) . Didn’t want anything to eat or drink and was lethargic. By about 4pm he was absolutely fine, running around playing with his sister etc and ate his dinner and some snacks.

This morning woke up with the same thing, complaining this his stomach was really painful and he had a temp and was as white as a ghost. Any time he stood up or moved around he cried that the pain was awful and by about 9am when he moved and got the pain he would also be sick, this happened three times. But then again by afternoon he was absolutely fine.

saw the GP this afternoon who examined him and said some of his glands were up but they couldn’t see anything wrong so they had no idea what was causing the pain in the morning but they have booked us an appt for 8.30 tomorrow so if he has another bad morning they can see him when he’s in pain.

has anyone experienced anything similar to this and if so what did it turn out to be?

One of my children had suspected appendicitis but didn’t have it- she had a bad uti instead that had been unresponsive to antibiotics. When we were going through the process the GP was quite clear they can’t really diagnose. if you’re unsure tonight go to A&E.

We had to go into paeds for bloods, urine dip and for the surgical team to have a feel. Bloods seemed to be the most important check and they wanted mine to be nil by mouth until could get the results.

There was a child in at the same time who did have it. They were vomiting a lot and just looked grey. My child was mainly in pain but not vomiting. Basically the surgeons said it often gets worse very quickly but there are some kids it’s not quite as clear cut. They couldn’t be 100% sure mine didn’t have it but were 95% sure but we were in an out over a couple of days with two rounds of bloods, different antibiotics etc.

That’s helpful thank you, I’m hoping it’s not and that it’s just some kind of weird virus but I supose
online time will tell!

My dd had it investigated a few times and ruled out. They often diagnose probable Mesenteric adenitis (glands basically, nothing scary).

I had appendicitis and am pretty sure I'd had a few episodes previously before it was removed

Green vomit was definitely something we were asked about. Although I was never sick when I had it.

shimmerandshine123 · 11/06/2026 18:01

@VividDeer his vomit was green all three times but I didn’t know if that was just because his stomach was probably empty due to not eating this morning

I had appendicitis aged 5. I was able to convey to my Mum that I needed the doctor. I was in acute pain and sick with a temperature.

I had pain on my left side which graduated slowly across to the right. I can remember even now that it hurt acutely when I coughed.

In 1975 the scar was large but they do keyhole now.

VividDeer · 11/06/2026 18:02

Ah ok. Don't be afraid to take him to hospital if he worsens again before gp appointment.

VividDeer · 11/06/2026 18:05

And take a photo of the vomit!

I remember a stern nurse telling me the surgeon would only look at my dd if the vomit was green... she changed her mind when I told her my dh was a consultant bowel surgeon. Dh would say always be cautious with kids. He sends them onto the children's hospital as only deals with adults.

This is my scar!

Thanks all, he seems much better this afternoon so hopefully things will be fine! The only thing I’ve noticed is he doesn’t want dinner tonight which isn’t like him but he’s not saying his stomach hurts x

I had appendicitis many years ago and can remember being weak, vomiting, couldn't eat or drink, lots of pain and then just couldn't really walk as was so sore and tired. I think my symptoms got steadily worse. We were on holiday in France at the time and went to the doctor who placed pressure on my right side and I screamed the place down. We then went pronto to the hospital where it was removed. My scar is about an inch long as they didn't do keyhole then. Hope your DS is better soon.

@shimmerandshine123 how is he now?
