AIBU to suggest spending part of winter in South-East Asia?

I hate winter in this country, last winter I said to my DH that I couldn’t bear another winter here.

So, I’ve been looking at us spending around 6/7 weeks somewhere in SE Asia. We’re both retired so don’t have any real commitments or at least that can’t be covered. We have enough money to do this, we don’t have a mortgage or any rental costs so our outgoings are reasonably low.

I haven’t mentioned this to DH yet as I’m doing some research first but we have been to two countries that I’m looking at so I know it’s cheap to have a rental and to live there.

Am I wrong to want to do this? I will speak with DH about his considering to do this when I feel I’ve got enough information and rough costs.

Sounds great to me! Just ensure your home is insured for longer periods of absence, maybe get house sitter ?

I will do this when I retire. Go for it.

Sounds great, whereabouts would you go?

Lovely idea.

Not unreasonable at all, as long as you don’t have commitments and your DH agrees.

We like to spend a few weeks in Spain in the winter, 3-4 weeks.

Depending on where you choose, it's a great idea.
Ee had 4 years in Thailand which was great.
The only issue I can remember was the bloody mosquitoes.

I met a Norwegian couple backpacking around India in their late 60's years ago and they picked a different country each winter, sounds amazing.

I’m looking at Vietnam and Cambodia. I’m aware different parts of each country has different weather so that would form part of my research, I’d also like to be somewhere where we are close to a beach and the centre of town for shopping needs and bars/restaurants. For Vietnam, I’m thinking Hoi An as we loved it when we went last year but I’m unsure of where else to go. Any suggestions would be most welcome 🤗
