AIBU to think alcohol is not worth the three-day hangovers?

Does anyone else suffer from these? I read the other day about Steve Bartlett having said that drinking 3 glasses of wine ruined 3 days for him, and being roundly mocked, but that is what I'm like now- DH and I shared most of a bottle of wine on Saturday (think DS also had a glass) and I still feel slightly rotten now.

I used to be able to drink For England. Is this a perimenopause thing? AIBU to think it's not worth it.

Bartlett isn’t someone to measure yourself against.
But I barely drink anymore for lots of the reasons mentioned above. I was quite good at drinking until my mid to late 30’s when it hit me like a tonne of bricks. The hangovers were leaving me in bed for 2 days and I realised I didn’t want my kids seeing me rotting away in bed as ‘normal’. It wasn’t every weekend, more like once every couple of months but still, I hated wasting 2 days in bed, barely able to eat and then only wanting to eat shit, but then the hangxiety found me and I started hating myself for the night before.
I’m 41. Now I will occasionally (once per month maybe) either drink a beer or a vodka and soda water with fresh lime, a few times I’ve had 2, that’s about the limit for me to feel a little relaxed buzz and not feel like death the next day.
however I swim early on a Saturday morning and have another exercise class on a Sunday morning and I love them both so if I’m drinking the night before it will be for a bloody special occasion.

Hangxiety, bed-rot, grossness, grumpiness… This is all it seems to do for me too. I used to love a drink, now it’s just not worth it, so I’m moving towards not drinking at all, but still navigating how to confidently manage that bit socially.

I rarely drink now. Even a glass of wine will give me disturbed sleep.
