Would you chance a chicken and basil pesto pizza that expired 3 days ago (refrigerated)?

Bought some refrigerated pizzas on Thursday and just realised one of them went off on the 5th. Can I chance it today do you think? It’s been in the fridge the whole time and was wrapped in the plastic and cardboard. Should I just chuck it? Many thanks!

YABU - Chuck it
YANBU - It’s fine

Due to the chicken, absolutely do not chance it. The effects could be anything from nothing happens to severe food poisoning. It would depend on the bacteria present, how much they have managed to multiply and how susceptible the consumer is.

murasaki · 08/06/2026 15:04

I would if it wasn't chicken, but as it is, no chance, sorry.

ZebraPyjamas · 08/06/2026 15:05

Absolutely not

msmolli · 08/06/2026 15:06

I'd use it today. The dates they put on boxes don't really mean much IMO.

TheNavyReader · 08/06/2026 15:07

Would eat a veg pizza with no concerns, but chicken is an absolute no

lordbaddingham · 08/06/2026 15:07

I eat chicken one day over but not any more than that. I'd say no.

RobinEllacotStrike · 08/06/2026 15:07

I would eat it - I'd make sure it was properly sizzling though.

Magicpaintbrush · 08/06/2026 15:08

Of course not, unless you enjoy food poisoning. Grim.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/06/2026 15:08

Meat, cheese and moist dough all sound like a listeria playground. One day maybe.

Three is pushing it for me.

TheWytch · 08/06/2026 15:08

Not with the chicken.

Actually no with any processed pizza. You don't know if it was contaminated before you bought it.

Iamacatslave · 08/06/2026 15:09

No way.

FeministThrowingAPrincessParty · 08/06/2026 15:09

Nope and I’m fairly relaxed about expiry dates.

Howyoudoings · 08/06/2026 15:11

I only risk one day with use by dates .

Jc2001 · 08/06/2026 15:11

Go for it. I'm prepared to take the risk for you to eat that pizza. Let us know how you get on

DeftGoldHedgehog · 08/06/2026 15:12

No. Blee. Smell the chicken, it will be horrible.

NightText · 08/06/2026 15:15

Yes I would if your fridge is properly cold (max5*c) and you're cooking thoroughly.

Peppermintcreamz · 08/06/2026 15:15

I thought as much :( Thanks everyone!

Definitely not with chicken.

Ponderingwindow · 08/06/2026 15:15

Personally, no.

i am prone to food poisoning. DH is so prone that he ended up in hospital for weeks with a bout once.

people with more robust systems might be able to make different choices.

JimBobsWife · 08/06/2026 15:18

Is the chicken on the pizza raw or cooked?

lifeturnsonadime · 08/06/2026 15:21

If it's cooked chicken I would. Just make sure it's thoroughly heated up.

Ablondiebutagoody · 08/06/2026 15:21

It was probably made in a factory 2 weeks ago with pre-cooked chicken. Another couple of days won't hurt.

Missj25 · Today 12:31

💯 throw away , especially chicken .
If it was a veggie pizza it would be fine .
