We are getting DC a car for his birthday (turning 17) but planning to collect it the day before - it will be a surprise on the day for him. I’m sorting learner driver insurance in his name, with me and DH as named drivers. But I’m assuming that can’t start till the day he turns 17, is that right? If so, how do we insure it for the day before his birthday, for one of us to drive it home and so it’s insured overnight?

You can take out a short term policy just to cover you collecting it.

Short term policy to collect it for the day, just get 24 hours.

Or maybe even a number of hours insurance as the new policy will start at midnight.

Ah ok, would I do this with my own car insurer? Are there certain providers that offer short term cover?

Veygo are good for this

my friend used one of those short term policies. think he was £40 for the day.

or you could just pick it up the morning of his birthday instead.
