AIBU to be annoyed by the random clothing sizes bought?

Husband took our 14 yo dd shopping for summer clothes. Dd is difficult to buy for she’s got a very particular style and I’ve ordered numerous shorts, skirts, dresses in an attempt over the last few months but nothings right too long etc I took her shopping encouraged her to try on different things without much joy.
As the holiday is getting dangerously close and I’ve had another failed attempt delivered this morning. Husband said he’d take her shopping and said what’s the big deal I’ll get sorted in one go.
i reminded them both to try stuff while there and make sure it fits etc she’s come home with a size 6 pair of shorts, size 8 and a size 10 skirt

Do they fit her ? It’s not unusual to buy something in one size and then another item in a different size. As long as they fit, surely ?

Size doesn’t matter as long as each item fits so you’ve left out the only piece of crucial information we need to say YABU/YANBU

Firesidechatter · 05/06/2026 21:23

Does it matter, you have no said if they fit in the way she wishes.

Happytaytos · 05/06/2026 21:27

Do the items fit?

cannynotsay · 05/06/2026 21:29

She just needs to try stuff on, I’ve got size 14-20 in my wardrobe it all fits differently

stichguru · 05/06/2026 21:30

So you have ordered "numerous" things online that haven't fitted, but then you are surprised/annoyed that they have now come back with things of different sizes?

Do they fit her? I mean it strikes me that just maybe the problem you have is that she is on a size borderline and different fits of clothing fit her in different ways and need different sizes?

Gluteustothemaximus40 · 05/06/2026 21:35

Yes, it's extremely annoying. If a size 10 is meant to be xx inches waist then why isn't a size 10 the same across the board? It really pisses me off, wastes my time with ordering items and having to return them when they don't fit, and sometimes, just makes me feel shit.

I recently bought a pair of pants from M&S, which I had previously bought in a size 14. I now need a size 18, and holding them up to each other, the size 14 and 18 are the same. I'm a size 10/12!!!

People that say it doesn't matter, it does, make the sizes the same or don't bother saying what size they are at all, and let's just 'try everything on' 🙄

i reminded them both to try stuff while there and make sure it fits

Presumably then thats what they did .

I bought a lovely summer zippy today in Tesco. I'm a medium or size 14 in virtually every single piece of clothing I own - yet this is a size 22 and fits me perfectly. What the hell do manufacturers use as a measurement scale

TheBlueKoala · 05/06/2026 21:58

I wear 8-10-12 - it depends on the clothes and the look you want. Supposedely she tried the clothes on @Shininhg ?
