Economy on the up!

The economy is on the up!

There has been so much negativity the last few years, but I am seeing real signs of progress. This is anecdotal - but reason to celebrate both small and large business''s doing well.

In the last few weeks.

  1. I have tried to book a roast in 3 different pubs (Berkshire) area and all fully booked. All independent pubs.

  2. Tried to book a hotel for a Saturday (Dorset) area and been told no availability until October.

  3. Tried to book a show for the weekend (London) and no availability until September.

  4. Been a part of 9 bungalows going up (Shropshire) and all sold off plan.

So lots of different areas there, there is positive news at last it seems!

Oh dear. Is this post meant to be funny?

Tell me you don’t understand economic and fiscal reality without telling me……never mind.

We know measure the health of the economy by someone not being able to book a show or having a bungalow built near them?

In other news, unemployment and especially youth unemployment breaking some records. National debt has never been higher. Gilt yields are through the roof. Tax and public spending is out of control and highest ever. GDP per capita continues to tank. Businesses closing at lightning speed.

But if anyone wants to know if the economy is doing well, just ask your neighbour if they can book a lodge in Devon?

Can't we just be positive for the places it is doing well!

All these are probably not accepting more bookings due to them getting rid of staff and cutting schedules.
So maybe less showings , less rooms to book due to not as many cleaners or staff to host?

That's not my experience.

Eh?

You are on a wind up. Or you don’t understand anything about how the economy works.

To be honest you are probably a good representation of the average voter. It explains why they keep in voting in these clown into government, pushing the economy off the cliff.

I did say the evidence was anecdotal.

Yeh ageee everyone I know is on constant holidays, kids on school ski trips, luxuries everywhere. Young teens have mani and pedi. Teen boys with electric bikes and head to toe designer kit. In North London a lot of people are minted currently and spending more than ever.

Construction activity is falling at the fastest rate for 6 years. Take the pandemic out of the figures and activity is falling at the fastest rate since 2009. I work in the sector. Its shit out there.

This is the case. My friend says the same. Their company is on the brink of insolvency.

Yeah I don’t know anyone personally within my family and friends who are cutting back. We still go out for meals weekly, several holidays a year, concerts, buying clothes etc

That's great!

I know it's not the same for everybody, but positive to hear!

A few gastropubs in Berkshire is not daily life in Middlesbrough, Portsmouth, Swansea, Gosport. Stoke, Barrow, Leicester, Coventry, Plymouth… the rest of the nation, in other words.

In the kindest way, take a broader outlook than posh country pubs in Newbury (or wherever), get to know lots of different types of people and get out of your bubble. Sometimes I feel England is on the verge of collapse.

To be fair I did say it was anecdotal, and I have used quite a few areas as well!
