To think that we should all boycott the businesses of billionaires until they sort the situation of kids starving to death due to famine and war?

They can literally afford to fix this issue.

Enough is enough.

Prayers for Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡© and to all those suffering across the world.

It’s not about a lack of money though, is it?

Theres enough food to go around, if the system of distribution and world events that’s the issue.

I’m not sure it’s a billionaires responsibility to solve it.

The total wealth of UK billionaires is Β£670. IF:

  • This could all be liquidated immediately, without reducing the price (improbable)
  • The boycott was 100% effective, and every billionaire immediately pledged all their resources to stopping famine and war (improbable)
  • There were shovel-ready problems to fix all these issues, and all they lacked was money (not true)
  • All that was required was a one-time investment (improbable)

Then the contribution would still be less than half of the annual UK government spend. I really don't think Billionaires could fix this, even if they wanted to. Or if you do have an amazing plan that could solve war and famine if you had the money, you should publicise it.

Hahaha calm down, I'm obviously just playing with you now, I don't think anyone on this thread takes you or your suggestions seriously πŸ˜‚

And yes I'll be right behind you with my name changed so I don't get PURGED πŸ˜‚

Anyway we both agree that the current situation is sad, we just don't agree on the solution so hey at least we're aligned a little bit 😊

Enjoy your evening.

Do you think Bill Gates, or someone, can just make a call to Wal-Mart and say 'deliver ten truckloads of aid to starving kids in Sudan and charge it to my Amex account' and that'll be job done?

Yes is the simple answer and also no. Would ensuring there was enough aid to the region improve the situation for people living there, yes, would it solve all the problems the region is facing, no . Its hard for the people who live there to make any meaningful steps forward if they are literally starving though, so removing that obstacle might make a significant difference ?

GaIadriel · Yesterday 22:26

No way are people going to stop using Microsoft products or Amazon Prime. And how exactly is money going to stop ideological wars? Elon Musk has already offered to front the money if somebody can actually make a feasible plan to end world hunger.

BatFinkk · Yesterday 22:26

@mumofoneAloneandwell oh you’re quite the talking point elsewhere online. That’s how I know. Plus your stupid gifs.

ExitPursuedByABare · Yesterday 22:26

Not read all the thread but sure someone has already said this.

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish and feed him for life.

Chucking money to feed the starving ain’t helping anyone.

guinnessguzzler · Yesterday 22:27

I agree with you OP. I'm at the point in my life where I just don't want to give my hard earned cash to selfish, greedy fuckers anymore. Sadly, it's very difficult to avoid at all times but we can at least try to do our bit.

If I have to boycott Microsoft I would have to quit my job.

Also - I really can’t get on board the hatred of billionnaires for being billionaires. Some seem decent like Bezo ex wife and Buffet. I do try and boycott shitty people’s companies though (like Musk).

Actually good point - in the event of a purge, it seems sensible for the purgees to be behind the purgers. 🀣

The only people who would be affected by a boycott (even if you could get together enough people for the businesses to notice) would be the staff.

It’s not healthy to go through life bitter because people have made more money than you. It just makes you feel bad and you can’t do anything about it
