To delay potty training until after the summer

DD has just turned 2 and she’s showing all the signs of being ready to potty train (she watches me and tells me the steps, she wants to sit on the toilet when her older brother does, she tells me when she’s done a wee/poo in her nappy etc, she even says she wants to use the potty).

However, we’re travelling for the whole summer from the 2nd week of July and I’m not sure it’s enough time for her to get reliably good at using the toilet.
I don’t particularly want to carry a travel potty around with us or deal with accidents, but obviously going back to nappies once we’ve started will be really confusing.
Should I wait until we’re back in September or just go ahead with it now she’s showing interest?

Go ahead with it.

Go ahead with it and take a travel potty. Twenty years we managed with an old fashioned one in a plastic bag. The modern ones seem great.

Summer is the best time. I used to just carry a big potty around with me, in the olden days.

They get stubborn with age. There is a real risk that if you don't take the opportunity now, she will fight you in 6 months time. It's how lots of people end up potty training way after 3.

Just go for it. My two both potty trained at 2 in less than a week. You’ve got plenty of time. If you miss the window when they’re willing you might find it really difficult when you do decide to go for it.

How many weeks do you have between now and leaving? 8 should be enough. Thereafter it's more reminders and being prepared for the odd accident.

How are you travelling?

Waterproof pants are probably your friend so accidents dont escape onto plane/train/car seats. Along with waterproof bed pads that can be used on any seats.

Do it now. She’s telling you she’s ready. You’ve got five weeks.
