We're decorating the hallway/landing/stairs.

DH and I rarely agree on colours but we've both agreed to try out a bold colour.
BUT, now we can't agree on a specific area - the sloping bit above the stairs.
I've attached chat GPT pics to get an idea. The actual blue we're using is not quite so dark, but not far off the AI image.
So, Blue or white?
Thank you. x

White. Sets off the blue more.

JumpingRabbit · 29/05/2026 17:55

100% white

ktopfwcv · 29/05/2026 17:55

White. Don't know what to vote.

White

White

OriginalSkang · 29/05/2026 17:58

😬 The blue only option looks like a dark tunnel, but white doesn't go with the blue at all

Tulipvase · 29/05/2026 17:58

We did exactly the same thing but with dark green.

I made my husband do it green as he was already balancing precariously on a ladder and I didn’t want the hassle of the cutting in if we had done it white - but I think the white does look good.

madosaurus · 29/05/2026 17:59

White. The all blue is so depressing.

Ohgoose · 29/05/2026 18:06

Blue for me. Not sure which option is blue so haven’t voted.

bridgetreilly · 29/05/2026 18:08

White. The blue ceiling makes it feel a bit scary, going down into the depths of darkness.

IndigoBabble · 29/05/2026 18:11

White

Cantthinkofanewusernameffs · 29/05/2026 18:14

I'd paint it the same colour as the hallway and landing ceilings.

Savvysix1984 · 29/05/2026 18:14

White

What is the AIBU?
White, or a warm light terracotta.
If you actually want to attract an entity pretending to be a Victorian child ghost, blue.

weddingdilemma2026 · 29/05/2026 18:15

White. We have the same combination in our hallway and another room as we loved it so much. The white we chose is Dulux Timeless. It isn’t as harsh as brilliant white.

Violetparis · 29/05/2026 18:18

White, the contrast with the blue looks good.

SwedishEdith · 29/05/2026 18:47

White. Looks dangerous if you have a power cut. I know, I know, they're rare but stairs+darkness=dangerous.

youalright · 29/05/2026 18:49

Definitely white its to dark otherwise

LetsMakeThisMomentLast · 29/05/2026 18:55

I vote white. It’s quite oppressive in all blue.

CaptainBeefheartspal · 29/05/2026 19:08

I don’t like it, it’s too dark and not a ‘statement’ area where this colour would work. If you must, then white ceiling.

Justbreathagain · 29/05/2026 19:08

White

JuliaBraverman · 29/05/2026 19:38

White

The question is how do YOU both feel about these colours and their effects.
I couldn't live with the heavy gloom of that - wouldn't even call it blue - and would have to say let there be light in the stygian darkness. You may feel something entirely different. though.
