To feel like others have such interesting hobbies?

All around me, both in person and online, I can see that lots of people have interesting and fulfilling hobbies. I would love to be like that but seem to struggle with tiredness and motivation. I work in a full time demanding job and often can't be bothered to do anything in the evenings other than gym, make food and sleep/watch TV. I do try and go to the gym and a couple of books clubs but I feel like people are out there leading really interesting lives and I feel so boring.

My hobbies are nail polish, make up, reading and listening to music, and occasionally painting or drawing or writing a short story. Nothing very exciting, but I don't think what you do is boring!

Ooh tell me about these interesting hobbies you see people enjoying?

I have hobbies that interest me, but never thought much whether they interest others

I really want to join a book club but there’s nothing around me! I’m jealous haha

Squirrelchops1 · 25/05/2026 18:16

I feel the same. I am not in a single club. My hobbies are going to the gym, walking and reading. I'll skip my terrible addiction to Real Housewives type tv ...the shame.
I like the idea of groups but I find it too much dealing with other people socially as my work is very peopley based.

10/10 when I hear what hobbies people do, I think not for me so I don’t really feel like I’m missing out. I’ve yet to hear of a hobby that would interest me

Twinkylightsg · 25/05/2026 19:03

I crotchet. Not very exciting but I enjoy it.

GnomeDePlume · 25/05/2026 19:05

Hobbies dont have to be social. My hobbies are allotment gardening (as social as you want it to be) and sewing (alone time, love it). This weekend I have done both, lots of early morning watering and in the afternoons I have made 3 tops and 2 pairs of shorts (going on holiday soon).

I find both hobbies absorbing and relaxing. While I am doing them I'm not thinking about anything else.

My hobbies are lying on my bed, eating crisps and chocolate and browsing the internet.

I'm thinking of people that are really into sports, or pottery or cold-water swimming. Things that sound exciting, but I CBA to do in real life.

Oooh

so me cycling 25 miles to go cold water swimming, that’s interesting? 😂 and going to make wax melts, or glass making to make coasters or Xmas decorations

Nobody else could possibly find my random assortment of hobbies interesting. Board games, painting, gardening. And bridge. Yes really, and it's my passion. Don't judge me...

EmeraldRoulette · 26/05/2026 04:38

@feelboring I know exactly what you mean

I have met some local people who I'd love to see more... but they invite me to things that I wouldn't/couldnt do. They're all very sporty, one does competitions and two of them do regular challenges like half marathons and those really long swims ....two of them are in a band.... this is on top of their very busy careers. I don't know how these people do it. These are people who are last in ones in the pub, then up at five or six for a run before work.

And they have lots of weekends away

I just don't have that kind of energy. I really wish I did. I would've gone a lot further in my career if I had that kind of energy. I couldn't have done as much as they're doing when I was young, and now we're in our 50s. Goodness knows what they were like in their 20s.

What would you like to do?

Most other peoples hobbies are boring to anyone but themselves. I go to the gym, cycling and book club but main hobby is Lego - building, buying and selling. I’d like to learn a new language but don’t have time at the moment.

Natsku · 26/05/2026 05:50

My main hobby is reading, which isn't exciting (well, its exciting to me but its not exciting)
But I also do woodwork in an evening class which I suppose might count as exciting. I made a table.
