Coming off MJ for holidays ..’!

I’ve seen a number of threads on here about coming off MJ for holidays .. full disclosure, I went on two extended holidays while in loss mode .. Can’t get my head around this mindset.

Why would anyone do this if they are serious about being healthy. (Which surely why most of us have done/doing this)

It’s not like it’s hard .. you eat absolutely everything you want.. just small amounts of everything you fancy until your brain/gut says ‘enough’ .. then you actually don’t want anymore.. why would you stop and then gorge yourself ? I was in SE Asia where the food was lush .. had some of everything. Never felt deprived.

YABU - Your MJ journey is different. I still miss food.

YANBU - just stick with it. It works . I’m

I went away in October when I was about 6 months into my journey having lost 6.5 stone. I took my pen with me and jabbed but I also ate far more than I had at any other point in my MJ journey before or after. I did gain a bit of weight and was really frustrated but when I think about it properly, without continuing to jab, I’d have almost certainly binged far more. The weight dropped off again really quickly when I got back to normal at home.

You are being disingenuous @Youthinkyourefunny - this is a quote which is absolutely judgemental and you know it is. You’ve pivoted because you didn’t get the wave of agreement you expected.

At least own it.

I have been on MJ for over a year and lost just short of 5 and half stone so far. I have been away numerous times in that period and have come of it twice in that time. Once for a colonoscopy so I had to come off for a couple of weeks and once when I went to Florida for 2 weeks. I took it day I left then when I came back so missed a dose. I choose to because I was worried about diet in Florida upsetting my stomach as lot of theme park food and was worried as so different from my normal eating. I was very disciplined when there no starters or deserts. And shared main course with daughter or eat half. I lost weight in Florida. I came of it not because I wanted to binge but because I was worried that higher fat diet would effect me as I have some stomach issues. On other holidays I have remained on it as in Greece etc I was confident I would be able to get a healthy diet with plenty of fibre.

If you miss for a weekend do you just take it on the day you are back?

No side effects after two weeks off and restarting at the same dose?

I'm on Wegovy. We go away for 11 nts. Was thinking about taking it the night before we fly and then as soon as I get back. Only have a bit of heartburn on day 1 and 2 of taking a jab but nothing major.

I suppose it depends on the dose. I managed mostly on 2.5mg so I figured ok to miss a dose. 11 days can take one dose a few days early and a dose on the day you get back.

I stop because I don't want to spend my precious holiday feeling bilious every minute of the day.

I love how the weight loss has reduced my pain from arthritis, but it's been a very unpleasant journey. If it weren't for the tangible benefit to my health I'd have given up.

I go on holiday partially (mostly?) for the food. I don't want to gorge, I just want to taste wonderful fresh food and enjoy it. On MJ, I don't enjoy food at all, am gassy and queasy all the time.

I saw a piece by a doctor recently where he said something about a patient who wanted to come off it before a cruise to "get his money's worth". I can just about see how if you've paid a lot in advance for food it would be a bit galling to see half of it going to waste. This is part of the reason my forthcoming holiday is self-catering.

People take a break for any number of reasons. On MJ, they may have high suppression and not be able to eat very much. They may feel nauseous. They may find that they can't eat a small amount of anything they fancy (like you can) and be satisfied. Some foods could upset their stomach/make them sick. They may just want to eat normal portions for a change. They may feel they are not getting their moneys worth eating the way they do/can on MJ. They may not fancy or be able to tolerate certain foods on MJ. They may not fancy or be able to tolerate alcohol on MJ. They may worry they will give in to temptation/peer pressure and make themselves ill etc etc.

After the first few months I was able to eat and drink pretty much whatever I wanted on holiday so long as I didn't overeat. I can do 3/4 of most plates and only every have 1 course. My teenage son has been happy to polish off any leftovers. I have been known to juggle the dates so I am not just moving up a dose or jabbing the day I go, if I am relatively new to a dose and feeling the suppression. I would stick to my current dose until I got back.

In the beginning I had to be really careful. I had a small portion of chinese food about 6 weeks in (still on 2.5mg) and felt really sick for 24 hours or so. It was around 14 weeks in that things really started to settle for me.

People have different experiences.
