Our country is so divided at the moment. Extremes in all parts of life are getting bigger and it’s worrying to nearly everyone I speak to no matter which side you are on; or even in the middle.

Until today I thought this was a big problem.

But not anymore. I just spent an hour and a half watching Mr Nobody Against Putin and I am just in shock a bit.

I am sitting here thinking our division is actually a strength at this point in time.

We must defend our freedom of speech no matter how much we hate it. No matter how much we hate the people who are speaking. No matter how much we disagree with the other side.

So this is my love letter to division. I implore everyone to take the time to watch it. It’s on BBC storyville.

It’s an incredible film. I think that’s probably the most important documentary I have seen. Potentially ever.

That sounds dramatic. But I just cannot get over that.

I am still reeling

Certainly up there in the most important- and bloody brave! - documentaries of our time. Did you see he won the Oscar and then the air transport officials in the US wouldn't let him take it in his hand luggage (which they usually do) and it went missing? Been found now. Honestly what that young man's been through and spun into absolute documentary gold and such a valuable insight for the West into how Russian propaganda works right there on the ground, in schools. Amazing work. I hope he carries on making films.

I think the message to us was just a lucky byproduct. I think he did it for Russia. For those kids so when they watch it; either now or in the future, they can see what happened. I hope they are ok. They are not going to be are they

This is Mumsnet at its finest. Thanks for the recommendation. I don’t keep up with current events as much as I’d like, and this had passed me by. I’m going to watch it this weekend.

Putin will die in the next 15 years I imagine. So will Trump of course. Who knows what will change with those 2 gone?
People like the filmmaker give me so much hope.

Passed me by too! I think that’s another reason I am so shocked. I was not expecting that sitting down this evening. How have I missed this!
