We did ours about a year ago as a standard renewal and they came back in a few days, new one first and then the old one returned the next week, but I don't think I’d have risked it if we had a trip booked!

TeaPot496 · 11/05/2026 18:29

I wouldn't trust an under two week turnaround. I think mine took about two weeks to renew, recently.

This is what it was 6 days ago. I'd fast track if I were you.

1st Adult: 19 days
• Renewal: 15 days
• 1st Child: 17 days
• Child Renewal: 17 days

Passport - standard or fast track

I just did mine. Normal renewal, came back in 13 days. I would not risk it. Do fast track.

There’s higher than normal intake right now due to new rules around dual nationals needing a british passport to visit. The timeframe is 3wks, but that’s from when everything is there (so old passport received and tracked in). Definitely go with fast tracked right now, as yes you might get it in time, but the demand is higher right now.

Took 5 days a few weeks ago but I wouldn’t chance it if flying so soon

AImportantMermaid · 11/05/2026 18:32

Jellybunny98 · 11/05/2026 18:33

Mine took 6 days last month, I wouldn’t chance standard now we’re heading into holiday season though.

Didntask · 14/05/2026 22:23

I did a one week fast track for my sons passport. Had the appointment at the passport office on Tuesday, received the new passport today!

ActiveConversations · 14/05/2026 22:46

I renewed mine in April and was impressed by the fast turnaround time.

On Wednesday 15th April at about 1.30pm I went to a local photo shop and had a passport photo taken, then went home, filled in the renewal application and submitted it online at 3.15pm.
I then put my old passport in an envelope and took it to the local post office, where I posted it using Royal Mail Guaranteed Next Day delivery service. It cost about £9.50.

On Friday 17th April the passport office confirmed that my renewal application had been approved and on Saturday 18th April, that the new passport had been printed.

I received the new passport on Monday 20th April.

So, it only took 5 days.

I recommend that you:
a) use a reliable photographer to take your photo and give you a code to enter into the online application, so that you avoid the photo being rejected.

I also recommend that you send your old passport using the guaranteed next day service, like I did, on the same day that you submit the online application.
