A tangy conundrum

You know when you just want a good classic salt and vinegar crisp, nothing fancy, no balsamic, no Himalayan pink salt, nothing highbrow? Once upon a time I would never have deviated from walkers, but now, in my menopausal years, I’m a complete convert to golden wonder. Anyone else feel the same or AIBU?

@InterestedDad37
Well you are not alone because Mr Toast is convinced it's true!

Tesco salt and vinegar rice cakes are really nice. Nothing beats Discos though for making your lips go white!

Salt & Vinegar Discos. If your lucky, you'll get a packet that'll make your eyes water.

But if you buy multi-packs they are really bland. 🤷

Walkers - I am convinced they switched it and no one will ever convince me otherwise. Why? Because as a child I only ever ate s&v crisps. My parents used to bulk buy Walkers at Macro and they were always green. I know this because people at school used to tease me for my posh walkers crisps (and those pink wafers with marshmallow on the inside).

Butteredtoast55 · 13/05/2026 11:22

@Anonemousse
Well that proves the opposite and supports Walkers' claim that they've only ever been green!

managingexpectations · 13/05/2026 11:52

The only good S&V are discos. They’re perfect.
hula hoops are fine alternative as as squares
I don’t like “normal” S&V crisps they’re just not strong enough

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/05/2026 11:54

Salt and vinegar hula hoops aren’t bad

Have you tried Seabrook? Lush

By far my favourites

BillieWiper · 13/05/2026 11:59

Walkers have changed. I haven't had s&v for ages but all their other flavours taste shite now. The Worcester sauce ones no longer have anchovy extract so don't have that fishy undertone. The cheese and onion aren't oniony or cheesy enough anymore. I think they reduced the salt maybe?

Isn't this an example of the Mandela effect. Walkers have said they have never been different colours.

As a child i remember salt and vinegar as turquoise/blue , cheese and onion green and ready salted red or royal blue but I don't know which brand that was

Coffeeisnecessary · 13/05/2026 12:00

Co op ones are the best, so strong and delicious
