My mum is visiting London soon for her birthday and wants to have dinner at a nice, preferably authentic Italian, not too touristy restaurant. They will be visiting the Tate modern then having dinner before heading back to St Pancras so anywhere near these are between them would be great.

always fancied trying this out but it may be verging on the tourist-y for you? Looks good though!
Circolo Popolare London · Italian Restaurant · London Fitzrovia

Bancone or Norma for more of a fancy meal - both are great!

Padella is great food on more of a budget!

I haven't been there but have heard good things about Lina Stores and it's in Kings Cross so could be convenient.

If you want somewhere along that general route but a bit less touristy then I'd avoid looking too close to the Tate Modern and St Paul's, but I'd also avoid looking too close to St Pancras either. In between there are a couple of good choices in Holborn which probably see more lawyers and businesspeople than tourists, certainly at lunchtimes.

Faros on Gray's Inn Road in Holborn would be my choice. It's a bit less Insta-friendly than somewhere like Circolo Popolare, but very well reviewed with a good cocktail menu and tasty food.

Another one to consider might be Luce e Limone, also on Gray's Inn Road, a little way further up. The decor has a more luxe vibe, possibly slightly old-fashioned to my eye, but the Sicilian-influenced menu looks good.

I haven't been to Trattoria Burro but it is going on the list - I love their sister restaurant Trullo but it's in Angel.

Circolo Popolare is fantastic. Went about a month ago. The interior is something else, the food really good and the staff lovely. You can only book four weeks in advance and it's very popular - I wouldn't say it was touristy though.

Curcolo Popolare is great, but really touristy.

We like ’O Ver Borough near London Bridge or Spagnoletti near King’s Cross.
