AIBU to start applying elsewhere while my probation is extended?

I started a job in a brand new field 6 months ago. I’ve been trying my absolute best but the company said I have improved a lot but they want to see how I am for another 3 months before they pass my probation.

The sector is facing some issues at the moment so AIBU to start applying for new jobs incase they sack me?

My line manager said he is really routing for me and thinks I will be fine as long as I continue at my current level for 3 months. I’m finding the whole thing mentally exhausting.

YANBU. You need to protect yourself and your income.

Thank you. I just worry that job applications are so time consuming that I might doom myself to failure at my current role!

Did they have serious concerns in your first 3 months?

I'd find another job or at least start seriously looking now

No, I don’t think serious. I was off for two weeks in the first three months so they wanted more time.

My former employer did this to me, they extended my probation after taking 10 days off when my mum died, and it was an absolute nightmare. My advice would be start applying for new roles. I ended up resigning with nothing lined up after the stress of it all. Really wishing you all the best OP.

YANBU. Protect yourself. Probation periods don't mean much anyway, they can still sack you before 2 years for no reason so I think it would hang over you until that passes.
