AIBU to think external window cleaning makes little noticeable difference?

Is there really any need for external windows to be cleaned? I didn’t have mine done for 8 years. Now I get them done monthly and can see zero difference.

Well, you need to clean them inside too

if you do you defo see a noticeable difference imo

MiaKulper · 08/05/2026 17:00

It depends where you live. In some areas they get filthy. In other areas they don't.
Mine look disgusting if not cleaned regularly.

Coconutter24 · 08/05/2026 17:01

Have you cleaned them inside?

EBearhug · 08/05/2026 17:04

My front windows that are near the road definitely need it. Rear windows less so, but they still get dusty outside.

DandelionClockSeeds · 08/05/2026 17:17

External: absolutely makes a difference.

Internal: we have dome windows that need frequent cleaning, some I do every couple of years

Sparklybanana · 08/05/2026 17:25

I totally see a difference in the number of spiders in my house... That is why I pay for it!

Exactly this. Ours need doing regularly due to where we live.

Makes zero difference here, but I do live in the middle of a trading estate and right opposite two recycling plants which both burn materials, one of which burns 24/7. 🤷‍♀️

Of course it makes a difference! You need to clean the inside too. Why are people not botherinf cleaning their windows is beyond me. Be house proud it helps with mental health

BearPear · 08/05/2026 18:22

I love the difference in my big windows after I have cleaned them, inside & out. So for me, I can definitely tell when they are clean

JeansandJumpers · 08/05/2026 18:27

Ok, thanks for responses. Perhaps because I live in a low pollution area with lots of rain, or maybe my aging eyesight, I’m just not seeing the difference!

RampantIvy · 08/05/2026 18:33

Sometimes the rain isn't that clean, and I also live in a low pollution area, but I can tell when my windows have been cleaned. I also clean them inside as well (now and again)

NoisyBuilder · 08/05/2026 18:38

I'm with you OP.

I have my windows and gutters done annually - thats plenty 😂

But a pigeon flew into one literally a week after I had them done so I have a bird imprint until next March.

JeansandJumpers · 08/05/2026 23:11

@NoisyBuilder ah yes there is always a kamikaze bird print on those windows…you’ld think with our low standards they wouldn’t be so reflective the birds fly into them!

Morepositivemum · 08/05/2026 23:12

Monthly seems a lot to me, I do them each season, or if they’re particularly dirty

RampantIvy · 08/05/2026 23:12

We regularly get bird shit on our windows, so I'm glad they are cleaned by a window cleaner.

AutumnAllTheWay · 08/05/2026 23:20

Love getting windows done by window cleaner.

Every 2 months enough.

Blahblahblahabla · 08/05/2026 23:25

I lived in a house where I never once cleaned the windows until we sold (so 4 years!). My god the difference was incredible 😂

So in the new house we get them done every 6 weeks. It’s does make a big difference.
