Children in bike trailers without helmets?

Maybe there is an inbuilt safety mechanism in these trailers and buggies that I am unaware of or maybe there is a science to the safety of the cage style engineering that I am ignorant about...in which case feel free to educate me....

But I was in South Kensington for work today and on a busy road near the station I saw two bike trailers go by. Each had 3 kids inside. No child in either trailer was wearing a helmet. Neither of the adults were wearing a helmet. These are not quiet roads. Lots of buses and black cabs going by.

If you're taking a child on a busy road in a bike trailer the children at least should be wearing helmets? Yes? No? Am I being overly cautious?

I think they are horrendously unsafe - YANBU

I wince when I see those trailers with helmetless children in them. So fucking stupid and dangerous. Our roads in the uk are not bike friendly at all.

I don’t think a helmet would help much if a car ploughs into the back of one. Helmet when on a seat that goes over the back wheel for sure, but the trailers are low to the ground. I think car fumes are a bigger risk to be honest.

fume inhalation aside, why do you see bike trailers as a risk OP?

Does your child wear a helmet when in your car?

Because they are more at risk of a head injury when in a car than in a cargo bike. So maybe everyone in a car should wear a helmet, then we can consider safety for cyclists(

My instinct was to worry that if there's an accident a child could fall out and hit their head on the road (both of the trailers that went by didn't have the cover thing zipped up)

As mentioned in my OP, I am happy to be corrected by those in the know who are more familiar with these.

Weirdly snarky response to a question asking for clarification. I literally said in the post I am happy to be corrected by those who know

Since you ask, I imagine that if a car hit a bike trailer any children seated in the car would be safer than any helmetless children in the buggy/trailer. If you know that to be incorrect based on evidence or anecdotal knowledge then feel free to share.
