Fucking Lidl

They used to have a good scheme where if you spent £250 in a month you'd get 10% off your next shop up to £20. Plus you'd get three free items such as a cleaning product or a bakery item etc.

Now you get 1 point per pound spent and can turn these points into items. An iceberg lettuce is 90 points!!!! I have to spend £90 quid to get one free lettuce. How the fuck is this in any way the same in any way as the old scheme?

Lidl are trying to frame it as a massive improvement.
I live rurally and have to do an hour's round trip to get to another supermarket so have little choice but to continue using Lidl. I am really pissed off.

I know they don't owe me anything but I really valued that 10% off.

I'm in Ireland and it's 115 points for a lettuce. It's a great incentive to be fair, spend €115 and get a free lettuce, who wouldn't be taken in by it.

Not amazing for sure - but anything free is a bonus.

they don’t have to do it. Every little helps!

InveterateWineDrinker · 05/05/2026 21:59

I currently drive past two Aldi stores to get to my nearest Lidl one, because the current scheme makes it worthwhile.

I'm seriously reconsidering.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 05/05/2026 22:00

Yes, if I spend £750 I get one free half side of salmon costing £7.50.

Sadly yanbu. I've recently returned to tesco and think apart for a few very good lidl bits I'll stay

Lmnop22 · 05/05/2026 22:01

Lettuce is definitely worth £90 worth of points - we are all feeling the pinch, don’t you know? 🙄

Overthebow · 05/05/2026 22:03

Yes I don’t see how this is better.

Keroppi · 05/05/2026 22:06

No way really! I've just got my 10% off voucher yesterday too. Shows how depressing the COL is when even Lidl doesn't do bargains
They've harvested all our data and shopping habits now we aren't useful Hmm

Holdonforsummer · 05/05/2026 22:06

It’s a massive disappointment. Their old rewards scheme saved me about £15 every month plus I’d get other freebies along the way. Now I stand to get about £5 a month off if I’m lucky. Insulting if they are really dressing it up as an improvement. 😡

ItsJustMeMyself · 05/05/2026 22:09

I wont shop where there are data harvesting "loyalty" "points" or anything like that because they are profiting off of your information and you get a lettuce at the end.

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/05/2026 22:13

Sad times, didn't buy much but as it's 2 mins drive from my work I used to love getting the free bakery item! I just won't scan now, not worth it,

gegs73 · 05/05/2026 22:14

Rob dogs. I’ll keep shopping there because it’s local but they’re not getting my data anymore.

Catza · 05/05/2026 22:35

They still have personalised coupons and I've been shopping in Lidl way longer than they had an app. And, honestly, most offers expire before I need to do another shop so I never used any of the freebies anyway.
I prefer their food to Tesco. I am more enraged by the fact that Tesco inflated their prices so you can get a "deal" with clubcard. Now, that's criminal-level data harvesting in my books!
