Because I've sat in on enough of these meetings to know that throwing a crumb to the panel is a well known thing.

I am honest I’ve already told them what I used it for before I even saw the prompt so. No need to make me outro be a dishonest person we all mistakes and sadly this is one of mine. If I was cheater type I’m sure I would have done before the last assignment of my degree.

A couple of brief thoughts.

Firstly, I'm sure that your word-processing programme will have a spell checker. It would underline the incorrect words in red. Use that.

Secondly, I find it unbelievable that you would submit an essay without reading it through first. I'm sorry, but that's beyond the pale.

Also, perhaps consider doing a course in English language so that you don't have to rely on (unreliable and potentially unsanctioned) artificial intelligence. You will find essay writing a lot more pleasurable.

As for AI, it fills me with terror. I'm not going to go on about it here, but will say that I learnt a couple of days ago that IQ in the younger generation is falling alarmingly, as people don't use their brains any further but.rely on this stuff. It's destructive.

Edited

I’ve already said I was Ina rush I was tried it was 4.am when I submitted it. It does have a spell checker but wasn’t picking up on what I needed it to…

Yes and I’m sure there are also people accused who haven’t done it or people who have intentionally cheated and never been caught.

No, I'm not saying that. Do I think you polished it with AI and said you just used it for SPAG? It's a distinct possibility.

If they ask you to meet and talk it through, it's better to be honest. Amd to make sure you know it inside out, references and all.

Tomomomatoes · Yesterday 14:57

If you genuinely did the work and really only did the spell check with AI then can you bring your laptop/ word to the meeting and show them the version history of your essay with all the progress. This is usually time and date stamped with words built in auto save. You should also be and to show the full AI transcript where you pasted in the fully written essay and asked for grammar help and the resulting output should match what you submitted. It would be a pretty clear way to show you didn't cheat if so.

You’ve ignored this despite being asked a few times - why can’t you show them the full chat you had with AI to prove it was only a spell check? Why can’t you show them your save history of the progress of writing the assignment yourself?

Because I wasn’t logged in. It’s also not a word document but a power point

Well I didn’t polish it and it’s quite clear when looking at there are errors still if I had used ai there wouldn’t be.

Oh my sweet summer child, leaving characteristic errors in is a basic level of trying to fool markers. No one would believe you could produce a perfect piece of work, so of course you'd leave a few errors in.

It's all been seen before.

I agree, and I bang on about AI etc. It is no where near 100% accurate.

murasaki · Yesterday 15:10

Back in the 90s, we had the great communist homework collective at school. To each according to their strengths. So I'd do Latin, C would do French etc. Then we'd all copy in the morning, and add a few errors in.

Lecturers are wise to this sort of thing now. It doesn't clear you from having used AI just because you were slapdash before submission.

Do you have the previous drafts and all the AI prompts? You still seem reluctant to say. If you do, and they match what you are saying, you may be ok.

Not really I just didn’t check it. My other piece of work from the same module has been marked as a low 2.1 this isn’t an ai type grade is it

It is if your other grades are the same, you'd not want it to stand out, just to save time in doing it.

Unissss · Yesterday 15:12

Tbh it sounds like there is no point even fighting it and going to the meeting if I’m just going to be called a liar. Might as well let them refer me for academic misconduct even though I used it how they said I could

If you have all the documentation, go to the meeting. I think you don't.

So show them your initial slides, and all your save history to show your progress of making them. Then show them your slides that you submitted with only spelling and grammar changed.

Oh wait, you’ve probably done some sort of factory reset on your laptop lap you cannot access your previous saved versions, right? Another excuse for why you can’t show them that this is your work?

What documents I have screenshots from days before I submitted it of my work etc.

Unfortunately I made a very stupid mistake and where I got it to correct my spelling I left the prompt in it unfortunately. The prompt does say would you like to make it more academic style so that would surely make it believable that I only used it for spelling?

Sorry to be blunt but you're going to get nowhere with challenging this. Accept whatever sanction is coming and never do it again.

SnappyQuoter · Yesterday 15:15

All your documentation is automatically saved. You’ll have all of your autosaves on your laptop, showing your progress. If you really did it yourself.

If you don’t have that, then you didn’t do it yourself and you did use AI.

Do you know what Google is? It’s this really handy search engine you can use to find out how to do things. And you clearly know what AI is, which you can also ask how to find these things.
