Help me identify the comedy sketch

To not be able to remember, for the life of me, what the name of a tv comedy that featured a sketch showing a man being introduced to his long lost mother by a couple of women (one of them I think was Katherine Parkinson from Here We Go) and his mum was like an old tiny wizened woman who came in and stuck out her massively long pointy tongue and licked his face. It was so rank but at the same time so hilarious that the tears ran down my face…I’d love to find it - anyone know which shoe it was?!

Don’t know which shoe it was, but was the sketch little Britain?

Vaxtable · 29/04/2026 22:16

Chat GPT suggests The Sketch Show

Big train?

DuckBushCityLimit · 29/04/2026 22:19

Yep, Big Train:

VashtaNerada · 29/04/2026 22:21

Definitely Big Train. So many great sketches. I like the actual big train one. And the “sorry, I don’t speak English” one.

DappledThings · 29/04/2026 22:21

One of the many excellent sketches in Big Train. It was terribly underrated.

These, warmed through buns....

We actually found with more cooks, the quality of the broth decreased….

Fat handed twat

An 11 minute long sketch, in French, about a woman falling in love with a set of temporary traffic lights. You really don't get that every day.

Prince chasing jockeys across the savannah, Jules et Jim with Mrs Potato Head.

So much good stuff.

Chat GPT suggests The Sketch Show

This is a good lesson to learn. ChatGPt and other LLMs are not search engines. They don't know stuff. They sort of guess, with implied authority.

So, no, Chat GPT is completely wrong. Not "The Sketch Show", which was a very bland ITV early evening thing , not all like the surreal Big Train.

The Sketch Show is such a wrong answer to that question that it made me do a Google AI search to see what other bollocks an LLM might come up with. It said this:

"The specific sketch you described involves comedians in a "last one laughing" competition, where they must make others laugh without laughing themselves.

The Sketch: A contestant introduces another comedian (the man) to his "long lost mother." The mother is a tiny, old, wizened woman who walks over and intensely licks the man's face with a comically long, prosthetic tongue.

The Context: It is designed to be disgusting and shocking, which fits your "so rank but at the same time so hilarious" description perfectly.
Katherine Parkinson: While she was not the one licking in that specific sketch, Katherine Parkinson is a prominent figure in British comedy (known for The IT Crowd and Here We Go), and her reactions and comedy style are often highlighted in similar British sketch/ensemble contexts.

You can find the clip on social media, often titled "Tongue Talk | LOL: Last One Laughing"

Please learn from this, everyone! Chat GPT and LLMs CANNOT BE TRUSTED!! They get stuff. COMPLETELY WRONG and too many of us are beginning to rely on them. It really doesn't matter when you're trying to remember the name of a TV sketch show, but imagine if you were asking something important!

Does anyone know, did Big Train have a sketch about a bloke waking up in a zombie apocalypse? He finds all his friends have been turned into zombies so he starts killing them, but it turns out they were just playing a practical joke. I remember watching this but had no idea where it was from. I did ask chatgtp and Big Train was one of the things it suggested. But then, it also confidently told me it was from "A touch of Frost" so I'd assume it was all bullshit. But given you all seem to remember way more about this show than I do, maybe one of you remembers?

Doesn't ring a bell

Big Train. Absolutely brilliant, rare a day goes by and we haven’t quoted it in some way.
A personal favourite is, “some kind of fucking potato!” Which is bizarrely versatile I find….

EveryonesFavouriteNumber · 30/04/2026 13:20

Thanks everyone- knew the hive mind would solve it!! And it was as hilarious and rank as I remembered!!

Thank you. The search continues!

Ah, the wonderful Big Train. The Evil Hypnotist. Sweary Florence Nightingale. The Staring Competition. Loved it so much.
