Friends that vape or smoke when you don't?

For those who don't vape or smoke?
Do you have friends that do, and if so what do you think about it? Does it bother you?

Do you prefer friends that don't?

I'm not bothered either way. I don't have any friends who smoke or vape in a way that impacts me in any way.

Madarch · 26/04/2026 13:35

I'm slightly envious of the friendships that seem to be struck up outside in smoking areas on nights out, but otherwise, my friends' smoking/vaping has no impact on me at all.

Kitt1 · 26/04/2026 13:45

I’d choose not to be friends with anyone who vapes or smokes. I can’t stand the smell.

Luckily, none of my friends are interested in either of those stinky activities.

bananaboats · 26/04/2026 14:06

I dont smoke or vape but dont care if others do.

freaking · 26/04/2026 14:06

It’s pretty simple, if you don’t like it you ask them not to do it around you or choose not to remain friends?

JadeisChristopher · 26/04/2026 14:13

I used to smoke. People always seemed happy to be friends with me. I now do not smoke (or vape) and haven’t for years. But I’m still happy to be friends with those who do smoke or vape.

Blueeberry · 26/04/2026 14:14

I don’t like smoking/vaping and will happily admit that I look down upon anyone who does. Smoking is disgusting and vaping flavoured air is just so childish - both awful for your health. Thankfully nobody in my circle partakes!

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 26/04/2026 14:14

I’m not bothered if friends smoke or vape but it’s a deal breaker in a relationship.

JackA · 26/04/2026 14:18

It doesn’t bother me, it doesn’t impact me at all. I think there are a lot worse social habits (like being a nightmare when drunk).

PillsBox · 26/04/2026 14:20

Smoking bothers me because I can smell it on their breath and clothes when they come in from outside.

Vaping doesn't bother me at all, as long as they're not blowing the vapour in my direction.

Iatethelastbiscuit · 26/04/2026 14:21

Whether someone smokes or vapes would not be a factor in whether I chose to be friends with them LOL. It literally says nothing about the type of person they are

PillsBox · 26/04/2026 14:22

Happily looking down on anyone with an addiction makes you sound as though you've got something genuinely missing @Blueeberry

Most, if not all nicotine addicts could relatively easily stop if they actually wanted to. It’s typically a social habit more than anything else. There are plenty of ways and means in this day and age. It is not the same as other, far more complex addictions and therefore I do not view it as such.

God, and I suppose you tell overweight people to eat less and move more 🙄

Considering that’s exactly what they need to do I don’t see what’s wrong with this statement. You don’t become magically overweight by eating well and exercising enough!

Hallywally · 26/04/2026 15:51

I’ve quit both & neither bother me. I’ll stand with people or be around them if they smoke/vape.

Waterwaterwaterwaterwatercycle · 26/04/2026 15:53

I have colleagues who smoke and I don't mind at all. Doesn't bother me. My brother and his gf vape and that's fine too.

SpringPuppie · 26/04/2026 15:55

I think it’s a stupid thing to do but it’s their choice. I have one friend who smokes heavily indoors and I won’t go into her house because of the risk associated with passive smoking.
Outside though it doesn’t bother me as much although I find it silently annoying when she moans about being skint, she must spend £20 per day on smoking.
