My son is 16. He leaves school this year. He’s got an ehcp
He’s got autism and adhd.

We applied for a specialist setting for post 16

They have said mainstream and we have appealed but I’m so scared for my boy that that will say he has to go to mainstream even after the appeal 😞 I’m so worried!!!!!

Was he in mainstream before?

Yes but he’s struggled a lot :(

Academically or socially?

The whole process is very stressful and the post 16 landscape is very different. I am not surprised you are worried.

Mainstream can be anything from a very rigid school like environment for a levels to doing foundation level animal care in an FE collegem

Which aspects do you think he will struggle with most. Regardless if the final setting, does the ehcp cover the right type if support to do what he needs?

What course does the specialist session offer and how does that compare with mainstream?
Is he taking GCSEs or other exams?
What does he want to do?
