Cupping face in photo

My friend has a new man and has gone “official” with it on social media. The photo of them she’s chosen is a selfie of them close together (which is normal) but he’s also cupping her face with his hand.’AIBU to think the cupping is a little odd?

I thought this thread was going to be about the incessant photos of women in the public eye, in the press, magazines, fashion shots, etc. shown as cupping their face.
Looks twee and ditzy every, every time.

Men are never, in my experience, shown in this manner.

Back to you, @Pulsating. Yep, even weirder.

I don't get it. What's wrong with it ?

I think it gives off vibes of the man being, or assuming he is, the dominant persin in the relationship.

I also think given the worrying and horrible trend for strangulation and violence being seen as a normal part of sex, whether the woman consents to it or not, cupping the face actually has taken on quite a sinister look to it.

I would think chosing this photo hardly gives the impression of an equal and loving relationship.
