Blocked in car park space

I was getting on the tube today so I drove to an area I used to live to park. I parked on the end of a block of residents parking spaces (residents spaces do not operate on weekends). Behind me was double yellow lines as it was a corner. I always try to park at the “end” of blocks of street parking because I have been blocked in a fair few times over the years. Came back from my event, and lo and behold I’m blocked in. Massive van has appeared in front of me so close I can’t even get a finger in between the vehicles. And a car has now parked on the double yellows right up the ass of my car actually touching my bumper. It has a blue badge so I guess is technically allowed even though it’s right on a corner? Anyway I had hoped to be home by 7 but after knocking on any doors no one knows who any of the cars belong to so I’m now on hold to 101 as I just cannot get out. Any one have any idea how long this could take to be resolved by them if no one comes back to either vehicle??

nope. Same as generally Highway Code rules, they can’t park on a corner or within 10-15 metres of a junction and they also can’t park on double yellows if there are yellow horizontal lines going up on the kerb. Although with the corner, if it’s kind of a private road/residents parking, that might muddy things a little.

I don’t think anyone is going to be able to tell you how long it will take, on a Sunday of all days, I hope it’s resolved quickly for you. Are you able to leave it and get a lift and come back in the morning?

I’d take lots of photos, I think in some areas you can report to council online so they will get a ticket, even if they then later move. It’s the least they deserve!

This would infuriate me. I don't actually know what you're supposed to do in these situations.

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2026 19:07

If it has a BB it should have a clock in it saying what time they parked. They can only stay 3 hours. (Presuming they are allowed on that bit of double yellows)

it should give you a clue to how long you’re be there.

Not if it's in Scotland. Parking on double yellows has unlimited time in Scotland

And does Scotland have the Tube?

What happened, @SmileyfromFrom ? I hope you didn't have to wait too long to get your car out!

In Glasgow

CandyEnclosingInvisible · 20/04/2026 13:37

Sounds like you were entirely legally parked and the residents whose doors you knocked on were probably lying about not knowing whose vehicles were blocking you in, someone will have done it quite deliberately to try to indimidate you away from doing this entirely legally. I hope the police got you sorted eventually @SmileyfromFrom

Yeah, in Glasgow Scotland has the tube

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 20/04/2026 13:54

Yes, this would have been deliberate. It happened to me on a lane with hundreds of houses and free spaces.

Completely unrestricted but within 10 minutes walk of town & train station though.

It had the desired effect.
I never did it again. 😶‍🌫️

Awesome! Every day's a school day. 😁

ilparadodosdoltos · 20/04/2026 22:21

Surely ‘tube’ is London-specific and in Glasgow it’s the subway, no?
Sorry not relevant to the OP’s predicament…

I hope you got out!

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 21/04/2026 21:29

I think by the Mumsnet law you have to come back and update us all with what happend

SmileyfromFrom · 21/04/2026 21:52

Apologies for lack of response! I didn’t think my thread was that interesting that anyone at all would care! Anyway I got lucky. The van driver from in front appeared after 45 mins. He was actually very apologetic. Said when he parked there wasn’t anyone behind me and he assumed (like I did) that no one would park behind me as it was double yellow lines on a corner. So he assumed I could just reverse back to get out. So it could have been much worse.

To those who think they did it on purpose, I actually don’t think so but I guess not impossible. Mainly because I used to live there and that stretch of spaces is normally very empty. There’s better places for residents to park. It’s a weird stretch of spaces that doesn’t run alongside any houses. They get busy on weekends when they don’t operate the residents only part of it as everyone parks there to go to the station.

Anyway I’ve calmed down now at least!

Not if you’re English living in Scotland
