Unreasonable to view this house?

My MIL has put and offer on a house. The survey isnt awful but says the house needs around 8 grand of work. It's close by and 2 storey. Today she walked past a bungalow (would be easier) more in the area she wants and cheaper. Would she be awful to look at the bungalow as she's already put an offer in on the other house?

No, of course not. It’s not legally binding at this stage

Londonrach1 · 15/04/2026 21:25

No.

Grumpynan · 15/04/2026 21:26

Of course not, an offer is just that an offer nothing legal

It would be crazy to potentially spend the rest of her life in the wrong house out of politeness.

Sprig1 · 15/04/2026 21:31

Of course she should go and see the bungalow.

Feelingworried26 · 15/04/2026 21:31

Quite reasonable.

Of course

What was the £8k for? Would these have been visible during her viewing?

How much is the house? £8k on a £100k house is a lot different to £8k on a £500k house.

It all comes down to the details.

If she is straight up with the seller and at an early stage says that she does not like the result of the survey and is having second thoughts that's fine. They can then decide how to move forwards from there.

If she strings the seller along whilst she hopes to find something better then that's not okay.

Noting is binding about an offer. You could withdraw your offer or reduce it after surveys. View the other house.
