He scuttled from the living room under the kitchen door. Got gaps everywhere in the kitchen for them to run under. Ffs 😩

There are no “humane traps.”
House mice live in family groups, you’re just releasing it to death by exposure or predator. Snap traps are most humane. Snickers works best as bait. By the time you see a mouse (unless a pet cat brought it in) they are already established and getting bold. Snap traps along the skirting boards and put ALL food into plastic containers. I’ve seen mice make nests next to those plug in repellents so I’m not convinced about them at all.

I had exactly the same thing Monday ,
run right across my dining room , I screamed & my
dog who loves to chase absolutely
anything small and furry didn’t even look up from his nap! My garden backs on the railway so not unusual for
me unfortunately , but first time actually seeing it

@WeAreNotOkthats the very reason NOT to get a cat! I didn’t have mice til I had cats. I’d get an exterminator in who will look behind appliances and the skirting boards to discover its (their) route. Then they’ll put poison down and come back to check it’s working - my guy said he’d come back a couple times if needed, all for £85.

It’s the worst feeling. I had exactly the same last year. Awful.

i quickly ordered some traps on amazon. Filled them with peanut butter. Four hours after laying them BOOM the little bastard was dead. Thankfully we just had the one, I left the traps down for a few weeks and there was nothing and we haven’t seen another.

Couldn’t be arsed with the humane traps either they freak me out I needed it dead.

I’ve got cats. Now I just find halves of mice

Trepidfox · 16/04/2026 23:50

Can you believe we put a humane trap down with peanut butter and we caught it first night! We've reset to see if anymore appear

Just saw you got him! Yay!

Another for a humane trap with chocolate spread, we used the other traps and they just got caught in them and it was horrible hearing them trying to get out.

Our cat does not care about mice!!!

Before I moved, I had a phase of loads of mice in my house. I caught lots of them in humane mouse traps and then released them to the wild. When I had cats the only time I had a mouse was if the cat brought a live one in through the cat flap and let it go; that wasn't often. Once my elderly cats had died, mice moved in.

They did me no harm and I'm not scared of them so I treated them decently.
