It's gone 1am, my feet are frozen, I'm frozen, got a jumper on over my nightie, have shut the bedroom window, and slapped the heating on for an hour.

❄️🥶❄️🥶❄️🥶❄️🥶❄️

Get an electric underblanket OP I’ve got one with a cotton cover that zips off and has different zones so you can just warm your feet etc.

Hang on. You said you’ve shut the bedroom window. Which implies it was open? What? No wonder your bedroom is freezing! I don’t consider opening my bedroom window at night until at least the end of May.

Window open all year, bar a handful of times when it's either really stormy or really cold! And it was really cold and windy when I posted!

Because it's April dear.

Didn't your granny tell you to cast ne'er a clout til May is out?

Indeed, and I never do! But even with all the clout I was bloody freezing!

Critising someone's spelling is the lowest of the low. I often make errors, it's due to a medical condition. Think next time before you mock someone

Criticising the self-appointed thread police is fair game!

My feet were cold last night! We’ve had 3 warm spring days then today we got hail 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mine felt like blocks of ice - I think once your feet are cold you're pretty fucked!

@BoxingHare if your feet are cold it is horrible and makes you feel uncomfortable all over

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 11/04/2026 22:56

Cough socks cough

Littlewrenn · 11/04/2026 23:07

It's the wind. Well it is here. We've had 40mph gusts all day today and so it's a 'feel like' temp of 2 or 3c.

If it wasn't for the wind I'd be quite happy! 🥶

Cough socks cough

I had massive Brambles thick, lined bedsocks on!

I think you're right, it's really windy again tonight, and pissing down, and I've kept the window shut. It'll give me a headache by morning not having the airflow, but at least I won't be frozen.

Sometimes it snows in April….

There’s no question of a doubt, I’ve checked all the ladies out…..

Anyone? No just me!

Every year I get to the end of March and think that's it, warm weather ahead. Every year I'm disappointed, I'm 57, when will I bloody learn 🤦

Same here. Small top window just a crack open on all but the sub zero nights. Airflow is needed!

It does feel cold compared to the lovely Easter’s we had the last couple of years. My phone keeps sending me ‘this time a year ago’ and we had my 91 yr old MIL on the beach in a chair with a small blanket on her lap. No chance now!

And yet one year it snowed on 13 April. The snow was so thick we had to cancel a celebration dinner as no one could drive to it.

Spaghettea · 12/04/2026 09:16

The wind is still cold.

Sadcafe · 12/04/2026 09:19

Purely a guess, but I imagine people have turned the heating off or down due to recent warmer spell(short though it was) or cost. Additionally it is only April, definitely not unheard of to have snow in April, never mind just cold

SabreIsMyFave · 12/04/2026 09:30

I have to admit it does seem to be a bit colder than usual for the middle of April.

April is not known as a warm month usually, and can be quite chilly. I have been to 5 or 6 weddings in the month of April over the past 25-30 years, (and there have been a few at the local Church over the past decade or so,) and it has been cold every single time. Never known a hot April day wedding day! I know there have probably been some, I just haven't experienced one personally when it's a wedding of someone I know.

We have had a few warm Aprils though, (this century) so it's a bit hit and miss tbh. But as I say, this April does seem colder than usual.

The windchill has had a minus temperature a few times this past week, (overnight and early morning.) Friday morning, I got up at 7.30am, and the windchill was 2 degrees C. An hour and a half later I checked again and it was 0 degrees C. I had never known it drop like that as the morning progressed. It was really odd.

Still, summer is just around the corner! 😎

landlordhell · 12/04/2026 09:37

It’s the wind I think. Last week I was on the south coast amd the wind made an 11 degree day feel about 2 even though the sun was shining .

SabreIsMyFave · 12/04/2026 09:44

Yes @landlordhell The wind is a factor. In the garden yesterday I was in the sun and it was breezy. It felt like 18C (it was 13-14C.) Then when the sun went in and the wind whipped up a bit, it felt like 8C!

BoxingHare · 11/04/2026 07:41

It is all over the place! I was wandering around in my "shirt sleeves" the other day, yet last night felt like it could snow at any point.

This morning it's mild and pissing it down. 😩

It's very normal for spring in the UK. Currently wind from SW so mild and damp. Average air temp for April about 14 deg C, 3 deg at night.

I've been wearing socks in bed for months. I didn't on the one very warm night this week but was back in my thickest ones last night!

borntobequiet · 12/04/2026 10:12

Pretty normal for this time of year. Get a foot warmer.

BoxingHare · 12/04/2026 10:23

These are my bedsocks, they've got a terry lining and are really thick and usually lovely and cosy.

To ask why it's so fucking cold?

Had really nice sunny weather since April started where I am so changed my car back to summer tyres on Friday. Had to use the car yesterday morning and it was bloody -8, car windows frozen inside and out (somehow, still not sure how)
