To find this question really quite patronising?

Is it me, or this question being asked increasingly often on here recently? To the extent it’s actually quite patronising at times.

Annoyed at DH. Are you Peri?
Snapped at my toddler. Are you Peri?
Keen to try a different position. Are you Peri?
Got a dose of the shits. Are you Peri?

Well, often it's relevant. And if it's not, good to rule it out.

Nickyknackered · 07/04/2026 19:21

It's the older lady's 'could you be pregnant?' question....

SomeTameGazelles · 07/04/2026 19:24

It’s become a strange kind of catch-all on here, like ‘Might be autistic?’

DelphiniumBlue · 07/04/2026 19:41

It’s interesting to see that this is something never experienced by my generation ( I m mid 60s). I didn’t really know much about menopause ( other than hot flushes and no periods) till it happened to me, and I didn’t even know there was such a thing as peri until after I’d entered full menopause . So no, it’s not a question I’ve personally ever heard directed at me.
The fact that it’s talked about now must make it easier to live through, I guess?

I was going to say, it sounds an awful lot like “is it that time?” with a patronising head tilt.

Firefly1987 · 07/04/2026 19:45

@DelphiniumBlue my mum had never heard of it either-I'm not sure I had until I came on here! I'm not sure it's a good thing tbh. My mum went through menopause pretty smoothly, just had hot flushes really. Now MN and other places have me absolutely terrified of menopause, and now peri to worry about too.

Wishimaywishimight · 07/04/2026 19:47

Pretty much everything (or sometimes it just feels that way!) on here can be put down to a) Peri, b) autism or c) dementia.

ArduousAndTedious · 07/04/2026 19:47

@Hewitt3 you get annoyed easily. Are YOU peri?

I've never been to nandos so I'm probably not

Honestly can't say I've noticed it much on here TBH. I think its more annoying IRL. I have a few friends who can't so much as sneeze without blaming it on peri. I think essentially what has happened is the women who grew up with social media have now reached that age and so inevitably there is loads of online content about it.

I have also noticed a lot of women my age have seen other online content regarding ADHD and now have that too.

Epicuriouss · 08/04/2026 21:02

Someone posted in the health topic recently; IIRC she was 33 and about half of the replies said peri. At 33 that would be extremely unusual. And six months ago nobody would have suggested it. Seems to be the latest thing.
