Do you conjure up an image of what certain posters look like? If you do what do you base that on?

IABU....because I am judgy like that.
IANBU...who cares?

I sometimes do. I mostly base it on the things they say and their username

Sugarsugarcane · 06/04/2026 12:12

You are being very unreasonable because this is something I’ve never considered before and now it’s brought to my attention I will undoubtedly start this habit 😂

NovemberMorn · 06/04/2026 12:13

I do judge.

Posters are etiher nice looking pleasant people, open-faced, pretty features, lovely smiles, the sort of women you would have as a friend.

Alternatively, a face like they are chewing a wasp, man haters or ball breakers, what's on the inside shows on the outside.

Of course. It’s exactly the same as how you imagine a character in a book.

Good point, except we get to know the characters in books.
There are so many people on here (or so many name changes) we often have just one or two posts to go on.

I do the voices in my head as I'm reading them 😎

Bombombomtralala · 06/04/2026 12:19

I’ve never considered this but probably will now 😂

The style and beauty threads I maybe do to an extent but because posters are describing themselves and their style.

IPM · 06/04/2026 12:21

Everyone without exception is slightly plump with short curly brown hair.

I have absolutely no idea why but even when I know what an MNetter looks like, I still imagine this 😳

mrsCtheRed · 06/04/2026 12:23

I do this too, all the time.

Like another poster said, with regards to book characters. But also, if I read a book by a new -to me- author, I immediately google the author to see what they look like.

If I speak to someone on the phone, say from a bank or business, I immediately paint a picture of them in my head.

Prior to parents evening at my dd's high school, I've imagined what all of the teachers look like, based on their names, and the subjects they teach.

And now reading that back, I'm wondering if I'm very weird!? 🫣🫣

PigglyWiggle · 06/04/2026 12:26

In my head, I agree with PP that it’s slightly plump women with curly brown hair but I would like to add that they are also quite haughty and tutting a lot. I imagine them sighing and taking off their glasses when particularly irked by a post. They drink black tea.

I'm slightly plump but don't have curly brown hair. I may have been known to take my glasses off and sigh when irked by a post though 😂I drink coffee with milk.

Yes! I always read the uppity silly self important posts in the voice of a middle aged school maam with a silly little posh voice with lots of huffing. Especially when they say "I'm so cross!" a lot.

NovemberMorn · 06/04/2026 12:34

For some odd reason, I have started looking at women when out and about, and yes, they are usually plump with short brown curly hair, a little old fashioned, a bit mumsy looking, and I think, 'I bet they are on Mumsnet'. 😆

I don’t recognise peoples names as yet.

So I don’t. But on a previous forum I used I did. And I was rarely right !

Me too.
I read SO many in the voice of Penelope Keith 😂😂😂

Ihateboris · 06/04/2026 14:01

I imagine most women to be skinny considering the amount of people on WLIs.

There is a poster who does all the tv threads called Blondeshavefun or something, Blondes Have Fun. Except I always misread it and to me it says Blonde Shave Fun, so I imagine her as middle aged, slightly plump, a bleached blonde buzz cut and maybe some tattoos and strong colours for makeup, lipstick and eyeshadow etc. She has a strong northern accent, maybe Liverpudlian or Newcastle or something similar.

I would be quite concerted to discover she’s from the Home Counties and has long blonde hair actually.

In the new year there was a video put up of some current Archers actors recreating one of the first scenes from the 1950s. Two of them looked completely wrong!

BlueSlate · 06/04/2026 14:07

I don't. I once saw a prolific poster (who I won't name) describe herself. But even though I don't think about it, I was still surprised because I wouldn't have expected her to look like that! 😅

I suppose it was because, unless they say otherwise, I picture everyone as being about 5'4, slim and with long dark hair!

Ha ha. I've met that poster. She's a lovely blonde with well cut hair. Definitely not Liverpudlian. More London Suburbs.

WallyHilloughby · 06/04/2026 14:18

I see a lot of people with mousy brown bobbed hair sharp features and cats bum mouth tutting at anyone eating more than 800 calories a day

Oh that’s brilliant 🤣😆

Westfacing · 06/04/2026 14:37

Unless they say or it's obvious otherwise, I imagine posters to be medium build & height, longish hair, aged 40, educated, liberal left, with very young children!

What threads do you go on to get that impression? 😂

EffervescenceSmallUmbrella · 06/04/2026 15:15

Yes. There’s some posters on style and beauty who I imagine to be like Edina Monsoon, some like Princess Anne and some like Miriam Margolyes depending on what they comment.

Two posters who used to post loads years ago I had a very clear image of. One turned out to look pretty similar to how I imagined and the other turned out to be a troll.

Farewelltothatid · 06/04/2026 15:33

I don't usually imagine what posters look like apart from one particular poster whose view points are always totally opposite to mine. And by coincidence has a user name which is the name of a not particularly attractive animal. And every time I read her posts I can just imagine that animal typing out her post because her user name seems so right for the views she expresses.
