Is this a porn addiction?

15 mins or so a day, most days.

Would you class that as a porn addiction?

Thanks for the replies.

Can I get off without it? Yes.

Am I currently in an intimate relationship? No. But that's not through lack of trying, and certainly not a choice I make because porn is more appealing.

Am I looking at 'normal' stuff? Yes.

Is the stuff I'm looking at changing? No.

It is 'just a wank' (hate that word).

Is it problematic behaviour that you want to change? I don't think it's problematic, and I wouldn't change it unless the consensus was that it was problematic.

Does it feel compulsive? No.

Could you easily stop for 3 months? I can easily stop for a week's holiday so I presume so.

Are you using it to emotionally regulate/numb out? No.

If you feel stressed/bored/lonely is it your go to? No.

Are you happy to spend your time in that way? Yes.

It sounds fine then, and not an addiction, just as you said more of a habit

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 06/04/2026 10:44

No, that's not an addiction. That's just him having his daily wank.

That's what I was going to say.

Iwantabucketofsteam · 06/04/2026 13:09

Are you paying for it ?

God no. I haven't paid for porn in about 20 years! Why would anyone these days?

If you need a prop on a regular basis to achieve an end or to make you feel better, then you have a dependency. That thing could be a cigarette, a couple of glasses of wine, online gambling, smoking a joint or indeed porn. A dependency isn't the same as addiction, although it can lead to it.

ThatWaryLimePeer · 06/04/2026 13:21

Have you tried replaying whatever porn you’re into in the mind instead of actually watching it and see if that works?

TheseWordsAreMine · 06/04/2026 13:24

I would be pushing for more nearer the hour mark.

Masturbating without porn is basically that, isn't it? Thinking of rude stuff. And that does work. It's just easier with porn (not easier to come. I just mean easier to find something I want to think of in that moment)

It's never that long. It's for the obvious end, rather than something in and of itself that I could enjoy for ages.

I have a couple of little scenarios I replay in my mind that get the job done in a minute or two. The mind is an amazing thing.

Why would you just take a minute or two to yourself ?
It’s nice too to take your time & enjoy even when it’s just yourself 🤷🏻‍♀️.
I like to watch it from time to time, & I have to admit my orgasms are always better when I watch it , but then i’m a very visual person .

Because I like it quick.

I sit on the toilet for over 15 mins per day… but I’m not addicted to it…

I'm sure we're all very pleased to hear that ...poop withdrawal symptoms must be rather torturous....💩

It's irrelevant whether others would label it as an addiction or not.

The label won't change your relationship with porn. Which is what it is.

Personally, I don't think spending 15 minutes a day masturbating is a problem. I think it's probably indicative of a healthy libido.

BUT, the problem with porn is that you don't know whether you are wanking to an act of sexual abuse. And you are supporting the sex industry which is inextricably linked to the trafficking and abuse of women.

Could you switch to a less harmful stimulus? Written erotica, for example?

Yes I do think of this sometimes. And when I do, I don't like myself for using porn. It is a good point that you make. I suppose I am weak and selfish in that regard. I want an orgasm quickly and this clearly beats any desire to protect other women. I know I should be better.

Loads of people do it, it doesn't make you a terrible person....

I am hugely opposed to porn, but did end up using it a few times when I was single..... It's so easy to access, that it is very tempting.

But I try to be strict with myself now. I do find that written erotica can be a decent alternative, though I am sure it doesn't work for everyone....

Personally, even with the ethics of it put aside, I just don't think it's very arousing to watch something that could be coerced, painful or uncomfortable, tedious, or outright rape. I find it a massive turn off! But I suppose some people find it easier to suspend their disbelief than others, and your OP was about addiction rather than ethics, so in that regard I think you can rest easy that you're not addicted.

Yes. Ethics is a different question but relieved that the majority view seems to be that I'm not addicted.

Porn is responsible for a large number of young people trafficked and force into sexual exploitation, they’re raped daily. Often drugged on set, vomit from deep throat between takes. It’s all so fake and seedy.

BauhausOfEliott · 06/04/2026 21:27

LittleCrumblyBiscuit · 06/04/2026 12:25

This is what people tell themselves to avoid having to really think about exactly what they are watching.

No, it really isn’t. And ‘what they are watching’ could be anything from a vast spectrum of material. Some porn is absolutely horrible and exploitative. Plenty of porn is neither of those things.
