Late night neighbour rant ...

Bloody wind chimes!

Another storm rolling in has reignited my anger at next doors bloody wind chimes.
I'm so bloody done with them. They don't even sound nice and they just clank around all night in the wind.
The metal sound clanking constantly startles me awake all flipping night.
They give me such rage I want scale the pergola and rip them down like a feral cat.
Obviously I won't.
But honestly, it must also keep them awake?! Who on earth invented these dreadful things and who has them? Am I missing some useful purpose for them other than to terrorise me?

& Before everyone hates me, this is light-hearted but I'll take any sympathy or solidarity I can get.

We're an end of terrace. They're otherwise non offensive neighbours. They have quite a lot of dogs which are frequently barky but not at night. I have two small kids who are frequently noisy but also not at night, it's a terrace and it's what you expect living in close quarters with others. I'm grateful this is the biggest of my worries and I wouldn't want to upset them or offend them but I wouldn't be sad if storm Dave tangled them beyond salvage.

They are dreadful things. Neither use nor ornament.

Marble10 · 03/04/2026 21:33

Have you ever asked them to take them down and explain the noise problem?

TMFF · 03/04/2026 21:37

I taped my neighbours wind chimes up with parcel tape 3 years ago.

They never removed it and to this day neither of us have mentioned it 👀🤣

Our neighbour has them, we can’t hear them inside and we are not attached but for people who love trees, birds, silence and told us upon buying that nobody makes any noise here -it doesn’t equate!

My neighbour put some up. They're truly great neighbours in every other other way. So I tried really hard to get used to them, but I couldn't & they were driving me insane. I piloted their demise!!

Eventually I just pulled my Big Girl
Pants up firmly & asked if she would mind taking them down as they were driving me mad. She says she'd replaced the old wooden ones as her partner hated them. I said I was ok with their previous wooden ones. She took them down no bother.

I used to have one just inside my window and did like the sound it made but a lot of them are just for decoration and sound awful!

Pinkflamingo10 · 03/04/2026 21:47

Can you sneak in and destroy them then they’re on holidays or away ?

ShakyBake · 03/04/2026 21:50

Count yourself lucky, my neighbour suffers with actual wind

Barbequebeans64 · 03/04/2026 21:52

The chimes of the devil are flapping around here too. It drives me potty

My son bought me one for my birthday and its so noisy..I only have two neighbours ab5d one is in his 90s and deaf so no issues there. I've told the other side to say if they don't like it and I'll take it down. To be fair it annoys me some days but I don't want to upset my son....I'm going to try and quieten it somehow if I can.
