Going to a climbing group tonight - scared!

Been climbing 2 or 3 times with a friend but I'd like to go more regularly. Im making myself go to a women's only group tonight but I'm terrified. What if everyone is really good and I'm rubbish?

Then they'll probably all climb to the top and look down at you and laugh. Maybe throw things and invent a mean nickname for you.

They might be supportive and lovely though. You should go and find out.

My kids are into bouldering do i spend quite a lot of time at a climbing wall!

Climbers seem to be the most friendly, laid back, inclusive group of people I've ever met.

Don't worry about the ability - they will likely chip in with suggestions to get you going but noone is judging. They are all there to relax, have fun, and do sone climbing.

Have a fabulous evening.

I agree with pp-climbers are generally a great group of people.

I agree with PP.
climbing folk are generally chatty and welcoming. Certainly more than other groups I have tried.

Too vulnerable and anxious for this kind of joke :( hopefully its the latter.

You'll be fine, and they will be lovely, I'm a climber and we love showing and inspiring new people to the sport! They will likely give you loads of tips to improve, climbers love doing that☺️

Both my older kids into climbing (30s) ive been along with them a few times im 60 and stiff but every one Ive met at indoor & outdoor climbs have been so friendly and chatty. Go and relax snd enjoy

mochimoons · 24/03/2026 16:18

I'm a regular climber and I'm still not very good but I love it and everyone is so supportive! If people are better than you they generally cheer you on and give you some tips to improve.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 24/03/2026 16:38

All the climbers I know are really friendly and supportive.
My son is just about to cycling up to the local climbing wall for a session. He's only been going for a couple of months and he's hooked!
Some of the older members took him to one of the larger climbing centres and really looked after him. They're a really lovely bunch.

Thank you. I really hope so, I'm really stepping out of my comfort zone and very nervous!

You'll be fine and I bet they'll all be lovely! ❤ Whenever I go to an exercise class I'm usually the slowest but just think who cares?

I think you're really brave going on your own even though you're a bit nervous!

Hope you have a great time OP!
