Query re Civil Service interview reschedule request

I have an interview late tomorrow afternoon, but have been feeling really unwell today after getting my wisdom tooth out last Friday.

Up till today, I was sure I’d be able to make the interview, but I’ve taken today off work as I’ve been in quite a bit of pain, so thought it best to just check if it might be possible to reschedule the interview.

I’ve just emailed the vacancy manager to ask, noting the short notice makes it tricky for the panel and that I understand if it can’t be rearranged.

It would be ideal if the interview could be rearranged to later this week or next week, but I understand if it can’t be. Has anyone been in a similar position where their interview reschedule request has been granted?

I went for an internal promotion about a year ago and emailed at 5am to cancel a 9am interview as I'd been up vomiting all night. I did it the next week and got the job.

They will only say no if they can't, i.e. the interviews are concluding in the next few days and there are no slots left.

Thanks! Congrats on getting the job 😊

I have a feeling it might be a no, as I chose my interview slot on an online platform, where I think it was the last one available, and the only option it gives me is to cancel the slot rather than cancel/rearrange it. I’ve got an out of office reply from the vancacy manager, saying they’re on training today and tomorrow, so I’m not sure they’ll see my email or be able to do anything about it.

it is likely to be too late notice. Is there any HR contact? If you’ve done this via an online portal then the vacancy manager can’t simply drag drop the interview to another time.

Unfortunately there is no HR contact - just the vacancy manager, who I’ve now emailed - and they had an online interview scheduling portal, through which I booked the interview for what seemed to be the last slot.

I’ll wait and see if the vacancy manager gets back to me - hopefully, they might.

In the meantime, I’ll just approach it as if the interview is happening tomorrow as planned.

I think you definitely should go back to dentist if wisdom removal pain is this extreme still. You could have dry socket? Try and get an emergency appointment? It's not meant to be debilitatingly painful for this long.

I hope they let you rebook but if they don't you just have to apologise up front if you sound groggy or weird due to dental issues. And try and soldier on.

Get some strong painkillers but you may need antibiotics.

I’ve recently interviewed in the CS and had a number of people request to reschedule, where we genuinely could we would, but we had a hard stop date when we wanted interviews completed by (because all candidates have to wait until all interviews are done before they can be informed so we didn’t want to leave them hanging, and we also didn’t want interviews hanging over our heads) so we did have to turn down a couple of requests if they weren’t able to do it by that hard stop date (which for the ones that cancelled last week, was only a couple of days after their scheduled date).

I would make every effort to attend if you can, if holds up the campaign and impacts likely up to 3 people’s diary, so unless I literally couldn’t attend I would make every effort to.
