A school mum called in earlier for a cuppa and while in the kitchen told me my house has potential!!! She won’t be getting another cup of coffee in my kitchen 😡

😄😄 potential? Yanbu!

Whats so bloody wrong with it?

How did the conversation come about? Whats her house like?

ThejoyofNC · 23/03/2026 16:43

I think we need to know the conversation.

TSW12 · 23/03/2026 16:45

The mum of one of my DD friends once said to me 'Even you'd think my house is untidy at the moment ' and annoyingly I just smiled!

Whatexcellentboiledpotatoes · 23/03/2026 16:45

Had you just moved in?

If not, she's a CF

Listlostlast · 23/03/2026 16:47

Unless you’re obviously in the middle of a renovation project, that was so rude 😂
A socially inept relative came to mine just after we’d moved and started with the whole ‘oh if you just changed xyz about this place, it might be nice!’ Shut uppppp 😂

rosycheex · 23/03/2026 16:48

Who cares, you won’t invite her back

EmeraldRoulette · 23/03/2026 16:50

I had a friend who came round once and told me all the things I could do with my flat. I pulled her up on it and she said she thought she was helping. I don't like to spend money on these things - it goes in my early retirement pot.

She'd be horrified if she saw my new smaller flat! I think people think it's fair game to comment and they expect everything to be Insta worthy

It's ridiculous.

I suppose if you were literally sitting in a building site...?

Ohhh that’s catty !!

pictoosh · 23/03/2026 16:56

Did she not just speak without thinking rather than trying to insult you?
People (ok, I) do blurt out some corkers with no ill intentions sometimes.

honeylulu · 23/03/2026 17:35

My husband's younger brother came round to inspect our new house - 5 bed semi which we'd spent some months renovating (nicely i might add). This will be our "forever" home until the kids leave/we need to downsize again. He looked around imperiously and said in a disappointed voice "I guess your next move will finally be the detached house with the big garden". Tosser.

It was much nicer than his house but I would never be rude enough to say anything like that.

Flamingojune · 23/03/2026 18:11

Shouda said ' so do you love'

SarahAndQuack · 23/03/2026 18:13

Why do people say these things?!

When my then-partner and I were very young, we finally moved out of a rented one-bed flat into a tiny little house and we were delighted to have space to invite people round for a housewarming. Everyone we knew was renting at this point. One bloke, who was a trainee lawyer, turned up, and enquired 'is it rented or bought?' and when we said rented, replied 'oh. I won't bother making much of a fuss then'.

I wanted to smack him. It hadn't occurred to us anyone our age would be buying a house!

Comfortingly, he never got quite the hot-shot career he obviously expected and last time I saw him he was a much less bumptious person, but at the time it stung!

Fingalscave · 23/03/2026 18:17

My friend's MIL and SIL visited from abroad. When she got home from work, they'd moved all the furniture around, thrown out some ornaments and rearranged cupboards. She went mad. Even cheekier than your CF visitor!

Westside1 · 24/03/2026 21:37

Thanks for all the replies, house has been lived in for 15 years. I’m over it now, it’s good to rant, won’t be inviting her again 😂

Summerbay23 · 24/03/2026 21:52

😂😂 sorry, it would be funny if it wasn’t so rude. I think I would have laughed loudly and literally said ‘OMG! Did you mean to be that rude’ .

pizzaHeart · 24/03/2026 21:58

I would be taken aback and would got really upset later. And I wouldn’t invite her anymore.

ShipshapeShore · 24/03/2026 22:10

I had a friend who used to ask if we'd 'done much' to the house every time I saw her. I found myself inventing things through embarrassment. I try to avoid seeing her as much as possible (because she's judgy and materialistic).
