WhatsApp disappearing messages

I am part of a WhatsApp group with 12 good friends. We’ve had the group for years and use it quite regularly to keep up with news, photos etc. I noticed this morning that one of my friend has changed the settings to disappearing messages. I don’t want our conversations to disappear! I want to politely raise it but wanted to see if IABU? Too sentimental, or is it ok to want to have a record of our chats?

If you are good friends then I don't see any harm in asking her why she has done this. You should be able to at least have a conversation about her reasoning.

This! Just ask them why?

Just change it back

OtterlyMad · 22/03/2026 17:05

You would not be unreasonable to ask to change it, but keep in mind that some of your friends might be struggling with storage space on their phones and dislike the digital clutter that comes with big group chats!

Ffs. If they're good friends, just ask them! It's astounding how little some people can do on their own these days.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 22/03/2026 17:47

Makes more sense to ask your friend than us

Uglydumpling · 22/03/2026 17:48

You can switch it off

I regret doing disappearing messages - I’ve lost some sentimental ones

Don’t worry - I’ve asked them and all’s well!
