Horizon parking weirdness

So, I got a letter about a parking fine from a couple of weeks ago when I’d ended up in the Tesco car park for nearly five hours unplanned. Fair enough.

But when I went to pay online it kept saying the case wasn’t found. And then, when I rang up, they found the case number but said it had already been paid. I have literally no idea how this could have happened. I mean, Tesco don’t randomly pay people’s parking fines, do they? Who else could even have known I’d got a fine in order to pay it? There’s no one else I live with so no one has seen the letter.

I’m not knocking it, but I’m wondering if anyone has an explanation for the weirdness?

If they've realised you were in the car park legitimately they've maybe just cancelled it but the system has marked it as paid? I used to work in an Asda and the customer service staff could call up and get parking fines cancelled

Maybe. I was definitely way over the time limit.

Maybe someone else entered their case details wrong and accidently paid your fine instead of their own? I'm assuming it would bring up the car details to try to prevent this, but if they were in a rush could it happen? Or do you enter the Vehicle reg to prevent this?

Either way I'd get a screen shot as evidence you tried to pay and couldn't just in case something crops up down the line
