To want to make a BEER-FESTIVAL FOR COURTING SEAGULLS???

There are some courting seagulls shrieking romantically outside my bedroom windown every night from around 2 am. It wakes me up. They sleep in the day, but I dont know where, so I cant return the favour.

However, I was thinking, if I were to put a big bowl of beer where they usually make merry, that ought to stop them? Or silence them?

I know seagulls drink pretty much anything put infront of them A few years ago I made a tie-dye shirt, and soaked it in bleach overnight out on the balcony. The seagulls got the lid of it, and were eagerly drinking the bleach. I dont think they got drunk, and I dont know if seagulls get a tummy ache, but I can assume they were clean on the inside. I dont know if somebody in the vicinity of my house complained about seagulls dropping dead out of the sky either.... But it did not seem to have any particular affect on them, and anyways I cant bring myself to feed them bleach. But beer? I can imagine a seagull walking sideways, hither and tither, and so fall asleep under a bush. I need a good nights sleep!

Do it, put some sleeping pills in the beer aswell, you may have 2 nights sleep then. lol

This has got to be the best thread title EVER!

YANBU

oh they might get worse IMO
I mean you'd probably get raucous singing, noisy shagging and then retching before the falling asleep bit
and it would get on Facebook and all their mates would turn up

I would advise against it

theSuburbanDryad · 18/06/2008 08:16

They might go to the kebab shop down the road though Franny, and keep them up instead of QS!

I'm wondering what a seagull riot van looks like....

OrmIrian · 18/06/2008 08:16

Put some contraceptive in it too. Or bromide ...isn't that what they used to feed soldiers?

OrmIrian · 18/06/2008 08:17

I think you sound like a very compassionate soul btw. How kind to provide booze for the party. How about some flowers and chocolates too.

QuintessentialShadows · 18/06/2008 08:21

I got to sleep! I was saved by the rain!

No sounds of seagulls now, just tap tap tap tap tap tap tap.....

You must live near me Quint! Couldn't possibly post what I did last year to 'solve' the problem tho, would get oh so flamed!

QuintessentialShadows · 18/06/2008 09:51

Oh please, come on! You didnt feed them breadcrumbs soaked in bleach, though, did you?

somanybabyseagulls · 18/06/2008 09:54

Breadcrumbs, ha nothing so namby pamby here, went the whole hog with bread rolls and a filling with an unusual kick!

QuintessentialShadows · 18/06/2008 09:56

I hope it did not give them the runs......

But what happened to them?

(I think already I like giving them beer better)

They disappeared! Some people in our neck of the woods swear by plastic toys snakes, apparently you put them where seagulls frequent and it moves them on, others have owl statues to warn them off, maybe worth a try, they are an absolute nightmare!

QuintessentialShadows · 18/06/2008 16:55

I wonder if plastic snakes will scare them when we dont have snakes around these parts?

OP posts:
somanybabyseagulls · 18/06/2008 17:40

No idea at the reasoning behind the snakes especially as we live by the sea!

idontbelieveit · 18/06/2008 17:50

somany, did you give them exploding breadrolls? Was it messy?

somanybabyseagulls · 18/06/2008 19:43

lol don't believe it, close but not quite!

QuintessentialShadows · 18/06/2008 23:12

Well, it looks like mine have taken cover for the rain, so hopefully they wont entertain me tonight! Would be different if it was sunny, as they have been at it everyday for the last few weeks when the weather has been nice!
