Curly Hair Advice

DD (13) has beautiful waist length curly hair. When freshly washed it looks fabulous, but the next morning having been slept on the curls are not as great. She gets in a tizzy as hair is not perfect for school. We do not have time to shower / wash hair in the morning. It’s a daily battle to keep her on track for school. Any tips on keeping curls perfect overnight?
AIBU to expect her to get on with it?

you could try a silk bonnet, or lightly tying in a bun with a silk scrunchie. maybe some refresh products to use in the morning

oh I’ll look into a silk bonnet, got to be worth a try. Thanks

My daughter has a gorgeous mane of curls. She uses a silk bonnet and a silk pillowcase, and has a hair 'rota' for want of a better term... E.g. first day of washing, set curls and hair down, second day hair down with sides clipped back, third day hair in curl friendly ponytail clip, fourth day onwards hair up in buns or similar.

She also uses refreshing sprays but says they are better used on wayward areas rather than all over her head.

@MonaChopsisThanks, I the sound of a rota. Can I ask what products she’s using, specifically the refresh spay?

I have curly hair . I can use olew curl refresh spray or wow dream coat for curly hair. I can also use got2be beach matt salt spray but only on last day before I wash it .

I put mine in a pineapple style ponytail with a big satin scrunchie and sleep on a silk pillow case. That said, in the morning I often do dampen the hair again (just with water - that will reactivate whatever gel etc is already in there from the initial styling). These mister bottles are pretty good: amzn.eu/d/08Nnbsfo

I’m very curly, I dampen it in the morning and then put this on and leave it to air dry: https://www.boots.com/umberto-giannini-natural-waves-wave-enhancing-air-dry-cream-200ml-10378777

I can do that for 3 or 4 days before it stops looking good and I need to wash it again

I’m quite surprised she is not using a bonnet because they are all the rage even for non curly hair.

A good cut will also help curly hair hold its styling better - layers almost always help with bounce & volume. The longer the hair the more the curls are weighed down and loose their shape

I used to use a plant spray to mist it with water. Now I just tend to scrunch it with wet hands . My hair is fine though, thicker curls probably do need misting or a refresh spray. DD’s friend with thick coiled type curly hair uses a silk bonnet.

This is what I do.
I also only wash it once a week or so (although I shower every day, I just don’t wash my hair).

Great ideas thanks, and good to see what products work well. We have some long layers already, will invest in silk scrunchies, pillowcases and a bonnet x
